Anti-Bullying Strategies
What could possibly happen if the anti-bullying strategies are successful? What if it is not? Some
people believe that the anti- bullying strategies used by schools are not successful yet others believe that it
is successful based on what they see and their experience. But what should we really believe? Before I
began my research, I knew that there are barely people who are getting bullied but there are still some
people who keep bullying one another about anti-bullying strategies used by schools, and I was curious to
learn about bullying because I want to know people's opinion about it and how it impacted people
especially teen agers. The research process was a little bit easy especially when we had to use this noodle
tools and we have someone that could help us. In order to understand the nature of the controversy, one
must first understand that bullying can happen anytime and anywhere. The proponent's position is that the
number of people who are getting bullied has decreased a lot, while the contravious believe that the antibullying school strategies does not help people who are getting bullied like the people in school because
teachers do not do anything to prevent bullying.
I found my information from "SIRS Knowledge Source." From this source, I found the pros and
cons about anti-bullying information, strategies, opinions, and experiences of people who have been
through this situation. Online sources like the newspaper source was the most helpful source. It is helpful
because it gave me a lot of information on whether anti-bullying strategies used by schools successful or
not. I find magazine the least helpful source because it does not really give me much information as the
newspaper. The difficult part of my research is how most of the information for pros are all the same and
most of my research results was more in pros and some in cons. Therefore, I still found some information
for cons that would make it neutral.

Some people judge or just say if anti-bullying strategies are really successful or not, but let's take
a moment to know more about anti-bullying. Bullying still has not increased its rates. One researcher said,
Reported rates of bullying have remained stable since the first anti-bullying laws took effect in 2005.
Each year since then, about 28 percent of students, ages 12-18, reported some kind of bullying, according
to the National Crime Victimization Survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice. (Clark
online). Bullying can happen anywhere and anytime. Second researcher said, Bullying is handled at the
school level, either by working with the victim to move them away from the bully or getting the bully into
school counseling. (Clark online). Old and young people can experience bullying. The author said, "The
experience is so common that many consider it just something that happens in almost every childhood
and something to be largely dismissed as a serious threat." (Hamilton 33).
The school department/the students made people know and realized that anti-bullying strategies
used by schools are successful. An organization made by a student can make a difference for those people
who are bullied. The author said, "A student organization known as By Kids 4 Kids was founded on the
principle that students were in the best position to learn in advance of threats of violence and weapons
and
report to them." (Hamilton book). The percentage of discipline reports has dropped. A researcher said,
42 percent of discipline reports were related to bullying. In three years, that had dropped to 8 percent.
And the number of students who used a long-standing peer mediation service dropped by 92 percent.
(Weiss online). Another researcher said, Self-worth, 29% of 10th-graders bullied in the past and present
had the lowest scores, compared with 20% of those bullied only in the present; 12% of those bullied only
in the past and 8% who were not bullied. (Healy online).
There are still some people who think that anti-bullying strategies are not successful. teachers are
one of the reasons why anti-bullying strategies are not successful. The author said, "The school was
dealing with a couple of lawsuits from past students who had been damaged psychologically and
physically by bullying that had occur in front of teachers who did nothing to stop it." (Hamilton 42).
Students think not going to school will make them feel safe. The same author said, "The Centers for

3
Disease Control [CDC] indicates that high school students are increasingly likely to miss school because
they felt too unsafe to attend." (Hamilton 34). Schools should post or make more rules about anti-bullying
to prevent bullying in schools. A researcher said, Schools will also be required to establish anticyberbullying policies and to report incidents to law enforcement if school officials believe the acts
constitute criminal conduct. It also calls for training for teachers and administrators. (Buffalo News).

In my opinion, even if there are still some people who bully one another and don't find the antibullying strategies helpful, I still believe that the anti-bullying strategies used by schools are successful.
For example, the "R time." R time was really successful and there was a big change since they made that
organization. Without the anti-bullying strategies, the amount of people that are being bully would
increase. It is hard to take sides on this kind of situation. Some people have proven that anti-bullying
strategies is not successful yet some people have also proven that it is successful.
