Steps
Set induction

: Talk about Sports Day based on the given


stimulus (Appendix 1)

Pre-Reading

: Teacher introduces new words using words


cards/pictures (type of event held during
Sports Day)

While Reading

: a) Teacher models the reading of text


(Appendix 2) and explains the meaning of
difficult words. Examples: applause, track
events, cheers, spectators, field events,
national anthem). Encourage pupils to refer to
the dictionary.
: b) Teacher reads the text aloud once and
guides pupils to read the text and helps them
with the pronunciation.
: c) Class activity: Pupils match pictures to
sentences correctly. (Appendix 3)

Our school
sports day.
This year our school sports day was held
on Friday. The day started with track
events. There were 50, 100 and 200
meters races. Then the field events
long jump, high jump, shot put and
discus were held. Every event drew
cheers
and
applause
from
the
spectators. The day went by very fast.
After that, to mark the end of the sports
meet, the national anthem was played
to close the sports day. We went home
tired but happy.
