Transportation

Any device used to move an item from one location to another. Common forms of
transportation include planes, trains, automobiles, and other two-wheel devices such as
motorcycles. Transportation gets humans places efficiently and faster.

History Behind Transportation:

Pollution from transportation has started to be an issue during the industrial revolution
when cars first came out, but has gotten much worse. During that time, most people
didn't have cars and when they got much cheaper, the issue boomed.

There is a huge change in transportation now. Before they only had a couple of roads,
which were flooded, muddy and weak. Now we have roads everywhere and almost every
other family has a transportation vehicle. Additionally, there has been major changes
since. We now no longer travel on animals, wagons or carriages. Back then you would not
see a car on a road like today. We have many ways of getting transported somewhere.
Such as boats, planes, motorcycles and cars. Each are more comfortable than
animals/carriages and gets us to places much faster.

Issues With Transportation:

Causes the climate to change, the world is warming up because carbon dioxide (CO2)
from smoke and car exhausts collects in the atmosphere and traps some of the heat
going back to space, like a greenhouse. CO2 and other greenhouse gases are expected to
raise global temperature by an average of 2C by the year 2100 causing the polar ice caps
to melt, sea levels to rise and freak weather conditions which may cause millions of
deaths. Since aerosol particles of human origin both reflect and absorb solar energy as
the solar beam travels down through the atmosphere, these particles can diminish the
energy that arrives at the Earths surface as heat.
In December 1970, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported over 89.9 billion
vehicle miles traveled, or VMT. It tripled to over 246.3 trillion VMT in December 2011.
Also due to transportation, there has been an increase in heat, that warms earth too
much and due to that extreme weather effects rain and causes smog.

Solution:
The best solution is to drive an eco friendly electric car so the use of gas isn't needed and
it will also help get rid of air pollution within time which makes it easier to breathe in the
atmosphere. It helps clear the air. For those who need their own car and travel a little
farther while saving money, this is a great way to keep driving and not have to worry
about filling up gas along the way.
Another solution is that you could ride your bike, scooter or even a skateboard. This is
another solution because like other solutions it will help starting to get rid of air pollution.
Even though this is a good solution, it's not reasonable. You can't go much far with this
transportation and some people don't know how to ride a bike or scooter. That is why
electric cars are our best solution.
Lastly, limit driving by carpooling. Carpooling is a great start in helping removing so much
air pollution from the atmosphere. If you and another person have to go to the same
place just go in 1 car, therefore, only a little air pollution is going into the atmosphere
because it is one less car being used, polluting the atmosphere. This still makes a
difference in our atmosphere. Although this is a good solution, it's not the best nor the
smartest. Some places where you have to go, are just for you so you cannot carpool
there. Another thing is timing. Carpooling to work may not be available. Carpooling to

work might not work because the other person might not have the same times as you.
Perhaps even if if they have the same timing, there might be days where you or they have
to stay late or the boss holds you in for a little. Lastly, the person driving is ready and
wants to go home, they may have to wait for you. This is why carpooling isn't our solution
and electric cars are.

Issues/What We Can Do To Prevent These Issues:

Although electric cars reduce the amount of Co2 released in the atmosphere, many
issues come up. Electric cars are very costly and only go 115 miles on a charge. Example:
it costs around $30,000 - $70,000 for almost any electric car and a charger for $650.
However, many places have put charging spots around. Additionally, it is hard to get
dealerships to switch to selling electric cars. To add to the issue: almost all electric cars
are runned by private industries, so they can charge as much as they wish for an electric
car. To prevent these issues, the government could get involved and become incharge of
these industries and lower the price of these cars. Additionally, we need to make more
charging stations for the cars, so they dont die so fast on the road.
