COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is an exploration of concepts, challenges, and changes in contemporary


parenting. We will iddress strategies;skills, insights, and resources that can assist
parents of diverse family types and at risk groups.
Students

will acquaint themselves with ihe changing nature of parenting throughout the

life cycle with an eye toward understanding the reciprocal nature of the parent-child
relationship. Students will acquaint themselves with diverse parent cultures as well as
structural and lifestyle variations among families. The final portion of the course will deal
with at risk groups and quality care for all children"
Several instructional methodologies will be used, including, discussion, collaborative
leaming activities, lecture, video, and student presentations.
