MayaBenzoni,aselfmadeAmericanwomen,islookingtobuildamutuallybeneficial
relationshipbetweenhercompany,YNotChocolate,andtheVenezuelantownofLaSuerte.The
LaSuertetowncouncilstronglyopposestheformationofthisrelationship,onthegroundsthat
Ms.BenzoniwouldexploitthealreadystrugglingtownofLaSuerteandnegativelyimpactthe
culture.Bothargumentsaretiedaroundtheissueofglobalization,wheretheplaintiff(Maya
Benzoni)isassertingthatglobalizationpromotesthegreatergood.Thedefendant(theLaSuerte
TownCouncil)disagreeswiththisnotion,statingthatglobalizationdoesnotinfactpromotethe
greatergood.
MayaBenzoniholdshercasebehindtheideathattheformationofthisrelationshipwill
benefitbothsidesofthesystem.Intermsofeducation,MayaBenzonihasanofficialbusiness
modelthatstatesthatsheisnotonlywillingto,butalsoholdsthedesiretocontributea
percentageofherprofitstoorganizeaneweducationalfacilityforyoungwomen.YNot
Chocolate'sestablishmentinLaSuertewouldalsobeadvantageousforthetownbecauseit
wouldboosttheeconomy,createmorejobsandraisethestandardforliving,accordingtoher
businessmodel.Withacurrentunemploymentrateofnearly8%1,betteringeducationand

offeringmorejobswilllowerthisnumberanddecreasethegapbetweenVenezuelaand
higherincomecountries.Additionally,addinganeducationaloutletwillprovidemore
opportunityfor(female)youthinLaSuerteratherthanpressuringthemintoanagriculturaland
setfuture.Ms.BenzoniisntlookingtoforceWesternidealsonLaSuertebutmerely,addher

becreated.Concernshaverisenaboutapossibleinequitywithinthecommunitybasedoffthe
selectionofnewemployees.Thisinequitywillbeonlysolidifiedbythenewgirlsschoolthatis
inproposition,becauseitwillaltertraditionsandculturewithinthecommunity.Theintroduction
ofYNotChocolatewillsimplybegintoWesternizeLaSuerte,atownoftraditionandculture.
AccordingtotheTownCouncil,YNotChocolatewouldcompletelycripplethesocialstructure,
economy,andecosysteminLaSuertethereforeplacingthemontheoppositionofthistransition.
Ontheotherhand,thewitnessesontheplaintiffssideofferagreatlookintohow
globalizationhasmadeapositiveimpactinthelivesofmanypeopleincommunitiesand

Meanwhile,theLaSuerteTownCouncilholdsthebasisoftheirargumentonthedistrust
ofMayaBenzoni.EachoftheirclaimsrelyontheassumptionthatMayaBenzoniisawomanof
maliciousgreedwhensheisnot.Shefightingforherbeliefsinwomen'seducation,aspiringto
becomewomanofpower,andultimatelylookingtobetterthelifeofthepeopleofLaSuerteand
herown.Additionally,theassertionsputforthbythetowncouncilareallpotentialratherthan
certain.Thenegativeimpactstheybasetheirargumentonareoutofsuspicion.Alternatively,the
positiveimpactsofthisrelationshiparefactual.TheschoolMayaBenzoniwishestocreate
wouldservethetownofLaSuerteinthepresentandfuturebycreatingamoreknowledgeable
generationandthereforeallowingLaSuertefinditswayasanequalandcompetitivememberin
ourglobaleconomy,theultimateproductofMs.Benzonisobjective.Sheisaimingtolower
unemploymentandraisethestandardofliving.SheislookingtobringLaSuertetogetherrather
thantearitapart.Mostimportantly,sheisstrivingtobecomeanactiveparticipantintheglobal
