Simon Bolivar

Childhood
Bolivar was born on July 24, 1783 in
Caracas, New Granada (now
Venezuela).
Born into an extremely wealthy family
that was the wealthiest in the colony
they lived in.
When Simon Bolivar was young, he
moved to Spain in 1799 after the death
of his parents.
He continued his education in Spain,
and married Maria Teresa Rodriguez del
Toro y Alaysa in 1802.

Bibliography
In 1803, his wife became sick and died
of yellow fever.
After her death, he went to Europe and
returned to Venezuela in 1807.
Bolivar joined the resistance movement
when Napoleon named Joseph
Bonaparte King of Spain and its
colonies.
In 1810, the resistance group in Caracas
gained their independence and Bolivar
traveled to Britain on a diplomatic
mission.

Bibliography
Bolivar returned to Venezuela and
began a campaign to seize control of
the country from the Spanish.
Him and his invaders invaded Venezuela
on May 14, 1813; this marked the
beginning of his Admirable Campaign.
Bolivar was hailed as El Libertador,
even though civil war soon erupted in
the republic, forcing him to flee to
Jamaica and seek foreign aid.
After gaining support from Haiti, he
returned to his home continent and
became involved in several battles.

Bibliography
In 1821, the creation of the Gran
Colombia happened under Bolivars
leadership.
This creation included what is now
Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, and
Ecuador.
Bolivar died in 1830, of what is said to
be tuberculosis.
Boilvars legacy can be seen in the
multitudes of things he did throughout
South and North America.

Venezuelas Independence
This event began on April 19, 1810.
The Venezuelan War of Independence was
one of the Spanish wars of independence
in the early nineteenth century.
When independence movements in Latin
America fought against rule by the
Spanish empire, it was encouraged by
Spains troubles in the Napoleonic Wars.
The establishment of the Supreme
Caracus Junta following the forced
deposition of Vicente Emparan as Caption
General of the Captaincy General of
Venezuela on April 19, 1810. This marked
the beginning of the war.

Venezuelas Independence

Venezuela was considered a leader


in the movement for independence
among many Latin American
countries.
This was led by a brilliant leader with
great ideas named Simon Bolivar.
The First Republic of Venezuela was
lost in 1812 however, Simon Bolivar
led an Admirable Campaign to
retake Venezuela.
The Second Republic Of Venezuela
was established in 1813, but later
failed.

Venezuelas Independence
Only as a part of Bolivars campaign to
liberate New Granada in 1819-1820 did
Venezuela achieve lasting
independence from Spain.
On December 17, 1819 the Congress of
Angostura declared Gran Colombia an
independent country.
After two more years of war, the
country achieved independence from
Spain in 1821.

Venezuelas Independence
Venezuela and present-day Colombia,
Panama, and Ecuador formed part of
the Republic of Gran Colombia until
1830.
Venezuela separated and became a
sovereign country.
The outcome of this war was Venezuela
gained its independence under the
leadership of Simon Bolivar.
The war ended in 1823.

Conclusion

Simon Bolivar grew up in a very wealthy


family in Caracus, Venezuela.
The creation of the Gran Colombia
happened under his leadership.
Venezuela is a leader in the movement
of the Latin American countries.
Simon Bolivar was a great leader with
brilliant ideas, who had a huge role in
Venezuela gaining its independence.
