Introduce ourselves...
Make name tags and include three things what they want to learn, things they
are good at, something that challenges them. Model a letter on the chalkboard
Give students their exercise books and vote on classroom rules. Introduce Secret
Animal to the students and how it will work (Discuss possible rewards with
students).

English: Writing letters structure of how to write a letter (name, school address,
Honiara province, date, dear...... I am writing to you because.... I really hope that
reading this letter you have achieved your goals.... Yours sincerely) and address
to yourself in three weeks importance of drafting and editing Ideas to include:
goals for the three weeks, fears to overcome, a message to yourself etc.

Maths: Number busting in small groups (draw as many squares with an area
of.... / perimeter of...) and number/ measurement open ended questions
Sport: Walkie-talkie hide and seek with all year 6

Organise table groups Australian animal names using Australian animal facts
English: Come up with three different ideas for narratives (use prompts - unique
location, set in the past, unusual main character. Write a sentence for orientation,
complication and resolution.

Maths: Informal measuring of different objects (size of book, length of the
classroom, from here to the bus stop) link this to formal measurements and the

use of mm, cm & m.


Independent reading
Music: planning for graduation performance. Students share ideas on what they
want to include in their performance after the discussion last lesson.
