AgoraisoneofthemostimportantpartsoftheAncientcityofAthens.Notonlythatbutalsoa
placewherepeopleassembledanddiscussedallkindsoftopicsaboutthesociety.Itiswherethe
AncientGreekdemocracyfirstcametolife.

isanotherimportantpartoftheAthenianDemocracybecauseitwas
usedtoaccommodatethemembersoftheboule,thebouleisacouncilwithresponsibilitiesin
ancientathens.TheBouleuterionisasimplestructureatwestofAthenianAgoraandEastofthe
Tholos.

AncientAthensisthebestexampleofatruedirectdemocracy,alllawsanddecisionswere
votedbythegeneralpublic.Everyyear500citizenswerechosen,thesecitizenswereableto
makeandchangelawsbutthedecisionwasn'tcompleteduntilalloftheothercitizenshad
chosenwhethertheywantedthattohappenornot.Aroundthistimewomen,slaves,and
childrenwerenotconsideredcitizens,sotheydidnotpartakeinthevotingprocess.Every
citizenwasexpectedtoshowuptovoteexceptifyouwereawayonmilitaryservice,ifyoudid
notshowupyouweredeemeddisrespectfulandwerelookeddownupon.
