Gardner-Webb University
Dear Members:
Gardner-Webb University needs more professors like Dr. Jeff Hartman. I am a changed person, a
better person, because of his influence on my life. I know many students could make the same
statement. Therefore, I would like to take the opportunity to recommend Dr. Jeff Hartman as
Professor of Exercise Science with Gardner-Webb University. Dr. Hartman is fully qualified to
be promoted to the position of professor and I urge you to award him this title and the
responsibilities and benefits that go along with it. Dr. Hartman truly cares about his students
development and he wants to see them succeed. This was evident to me while I was an
employee at Gardner-Webb. His teaching commitment, hours invested in the University, tireless
efforts outside of the class, vision he brings to the University and the true caring he has for his
students. Dr. Hartman will take the time and put in 110% effort to ensure each students success.
It was a privilege to work with Dr. Hartman on several projects while Gardner-Webb. Each
project bettered the University and those involved. Dr. Hartman was responsible for the Carolina
Chiropractic Human Performance Lab idea. His vision at the grass roots movement of this
project was for the Human Performance Lab that would carry the Universitys Exercise Science
program to the next level by providing it students with a state of art facilities. We carried his
vision to donors and shared the case for the lab. This secured the major gifts needed to fund the
project. The lab has now become known for its capabilities as a scientific research facility. This
lab has propelled Gardner-Webbs Exercise Science Program to a competitive level it would not
have achieved without Dr. Hartmans vision, enthusiasm, and desire to make Gardner-Webb the
best University.
Dr. Hartmans vision for employees of Gardner-Webb to have better health through running and
walking propelled him to start the Purposeful Running Group. The groups focus was a couch to
Marathon created to encourage members to run or walk on a regular basis. Through this
they improved their wellbeing mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually. In addition, he
had the foresight to ask each member to contribute or raise money to fund a scholarship in honor
of Dr. Dee Hunt. Through his leadership and guidance, numerous employees and students have
successfully run half and whole marathons together. Several had no prior running experience.
It is through these experiences with Dr. Hartman, I wholeheartedly recommend him as full
Professor of Exercise Science at Gardner-Webb. His vision for making Gardner-Webb the
University which prepares its students for success mentally, physically, spiritually, and
socially, deems him the perfect candidate for full professor.
Sincerely

Greg Poe
