CLASS DESCRIPTION
This is for 2nd grade social studies.
The project will be for the entire 2nd grade
not just my class.
Class sizes will be about 20 to each class.TKS
(1)History. The students understand the historical
significance of landmarks and celebrations in the community,
state, and nation. The student is expected to:
(A) explain the significance of various community, state,
and national celebrations such as Veterans Day, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, and Thanksgiving; and
(B) identify and explain the significance of various
community, state, and national landmarks such as monuments.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
I hope that my students learn about ways to
get involved in their community. Also the
different holidays that are celebrated and
ways to connect the community to those
holidays.SCOPE AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION YEAR LONG PROJECT
At the beginning of the year the students will visit the
Thomas and Mattie Brown house along with the Historic
downtown Wylie to learn about how both of these places
contribute to the community. As a class we will clean up
downtown Wylie by cleaning up the trash to help make the
community look beautiful.
Texas celebrates Texas Independence day on March 2nd, in
order to get the community involved we will set up a small
parade in the school that anyone can attend where they will
learn about the different parts of Texas Independence day.
Each student will have their own part to contribute to the
parade which will help their learning.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Towards the end of the year we will take a day trip to Austin
Texas to visit the capital building and learn about how the
government works.
To celebrate Veterans Day I will find a list of Veterans that
Vive in the community and we will write thank you cards to
‘them and put reasons why we are thankful for them.MATERIALS AND ESTIMATED COST
Bus to transport students to Thomas and Mattie Brown house
and busses to transport them to Austin.
Worksheets for Brown house and Austin for the students to
answer questions about each.
Cleaning supplies to clean up downtown
Paper and envelops for the letters to the Veterans.
