Hook - Fitzgeralds writing in the Great Gatsby is deceptive as he provides many good
qualities about his characters before revealing their immoral flaws.
Thesis - Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby is book that reminds that all people who are rich
are not flawless, but can be immoral.

Analysis
1. The author first describes the good
qualities of the characters.
2. Later on in the chapter, we find out
about Toms affair with another woman. Daisy knows about the affair, but
why doesnt she do anything. Fitzgerald builds up these characters and
reveals the flaws in them.

Analysis

1. This chapter introduces the desolate


setting of The Valley of Ashes. Fitzgerald builds the beautiful and rich
settings of East and West Egg in the beginning. This shows us that not
only do the characters have polarizing personalities, but so do the
settings.
2. The chapter delves further into Toms
immorality as he goes on a date with Myrtle and then breaks her nose
near the end of the chapter because she mentioned his wife.

Analysis
1. The author also shows the immorality of
Nick, the narrator, and Jordan Baker. Nick had a short stint with a girl in
Jersey City. He then begins seeing Jordan Baker.
2. Jordan Bakers immorality is also stated
as Nick believes that Baker cheated at her first golf tournament.

friends wife.
2. Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy
would be just across the bay. if youll invite Daisy to your house some
afternoon and then let him come over.
Analysis
1. Wolfsheim says a contradictory
statement that he would never look at a friends wife.
2. Nick learns from Jordan that Gatsby is
in love with Daisy and wants to pursue this love interest. This points out
Gatsbys immorality as he pursue a woman who has a husband.

Conclusion

Fitzgeralds writing has a purposeful structure in The Great Gatsby. He


builds the characters up to be rich and great with all of these fascinating qualities, only to
tear them down and show that they are indeed humans as well.
