Christianity as our Solar System
Christianity is the largest religion in our world today, containing around 2.1 billion
believers. But what is it exactly that draws people to join Christianity and follow Christ?
Christianity has a certain intrigue and fascination that leaves people with the desire to learn more
about their faith. This is why I believe Christianity is like our solar system. Since the beginning
of time, humans have been captivated by our universe and have sought to discover more about it.
Similarly, many people are interested and want to learn more about God. Humans have a sort of
intuition that leads them to believe there is something beyond our life on earththat we are part
of something much larger than ourselves. Christianity is what binds everything together, and like
our solar system, it comprises of many different aspects.
The solar system consists of the sun, planets, stars, and an enormous amount of other
matter. In terms of Christianity, the Sun represents God. It is the center of the universe and
everything else revolves around it. In addition, the central belief of Christianity is that Jesus
Christ, the Son of God, died on the cross to save us from sin and open the gates to heaven. The
planets could be considered the different denominations of Christianity. Although their beliefs
vary slightly, each Christian denomination holds the belief that there is one God and that He sent
His only Son to be our savior. Just as planets orbit the Sun, each Christian church revolves
around God. Each planet, or Christian denomination is different from one another and each have
their own unique aspects. Finally, the stars in our universe represent the billions of people
belonging to Christianity. In the Old Testament, God made a covenant with Abraham and

promised he would make his descendants as numerous as the stars. Today, this is true as an
immeasurable amount of stars exist in our universe, and Christians from around the world follow
God.
In his broadcast, C.S. Lewis used an analogy to explain the greatness of God: Space is
like Him in its hugeness: not that the greatness of space is the same kind of greatness as God's,
but it is a sort of symbol of it, or a translation of it into non-spiritual terms (Lewis 77). The
difference between God and Space is that God is great in every sense. On the other hand, when
C.S. Lewis refers to the greatness of space, he means in terms of its size and vastness. God has
an extremely large and important presence. He is the Sun, and the Sun is a vital part of our
existence: without it, there would be no life. Our universe is enormous, and in comparison, each
of us are like a grain of sand. God, however, is all-mighty and controls our world. In His eyes,
each of us are significant and special in our own way: no two stars are alike.
I believe that Christianity is like our solar system because it contains many different
elements. Each Christian holds the same central belief, however, they also possess many other
distinct views. The many components of our solar system combine to form our universe.
Likewise, Christian churches and people unite under God to constitute Christianity. C.S. Lewis
expressed his Christian beliefs by stating, I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has
risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else (C.S. Lewis Quotes).
In this quote, C.S. Lewis explains that God and Christianity are like the sun. Through his faith in
God, his eyes were opened to see everything else in the best light. God guides us and through
every day occurrences, we grow closer to Him. Christianity opens many doors and just as the
sun allows us to see, it is through Gods love that we are able to experience the world He has
given us.
