edTPA is about research-based teaching strategies. As you look at the prompts that you will have to write
for Task 1:
1) Make a list of all of the effective teaching strategies that are included in edTPA.
Teach lesson(s) that have a central focus and uses essential literary strategies.
Ensure that lessons build on each other
Connect to prior knowledge/prerequisite skills and backgrounds
Use principals from theories/research to support justifications
Support literary development through language
Monitor student learning
Address the needs of the students
2) For each rubric for Task 1 (Rubrics 1-5) write about the notable differences between the bold language
for Levels 2, 3, and 4. Remember Level 3 means you are ready to be a beginning teacher.
Level 2 rubrics note that candidates use vague and loosely tied objective
with only one language function or demand and with limited evidence.
This language shows that teaching is weak, vague, and shows little evidence.
Level 3 rubrics note that candidates build and support literary skills with
clear connections to the skills. Level 3 candidates focus to the class as
whole as justifies why learning tasks are appropriate by using students
background and prior knowledge.
This language shows that the teaching is supportive, clear, and appropriate.
This language shows that the teaching is meaningful, consistent, and backed
with targeted research.
