Students will be using stop watches to
track their timing at each station

Ice Lab Stations

- Station #1- Cold Water Submersion
Dip your foot into the bucket of ice
water for a period of 5 minutes
The subject will discern the
sensations as they occur
Partner will record time of
sensation and other observations
(color, tingling, etc.)
The time should be monitored to
record the elapsed time when the
senstations begin to change
Pay special attention to any
differences between this form of
cryotherapy and other forms
- Station #2- Ice Massage
One person will have ice
massaged in a circular motion
about 5 inches in diameter. The
ice must not remain in the same
spot for more than 5 seconds
The subject will discern the
sensations as they occur
Partner will record time of
sensation and other observations
Stop when the skin is bright red.
Record finish time
- Station #3- Baggie with Ice Cubes
Wrap bag of ice in a damp towel
Apply ice to limb using tensor
bandage
Partner will record time of
sensation and other observations
The time should be monitored to

record the elapsed time when the

sensations begin to change
Make notes to answer
question 5 on lab recording
sheet
Station #4- Ice Gel
Using two fingers, individuals will
take some ice gel and place it on
a 3 inch diameter on their skin
The subject will discern the
sensations as they occur
Partner will record time of
sensation and other observations
Station #5- Re-usable ice pack
Ice pack should stay in the freezer
until youre ready to use it
Wrap the pack in a damp towel
Apply it to limb using a tensor
bandage
The subject will discern the
sensations as they occur
Partner will record time of
sensation and other observations
Record the time that the pack
starts to lose its cold
