The breakdown of a semester grade is as follows:

1st marking period: 30%
2nd marking period: 30%
3rd marking period: 40%

The breakdown of a marking period grade is as follows:

10% Academic Responsibilities (Including attendance, participation, organization of materials, etc.)
30% Academic Tasks
60% Assessments (50% for quizzes/tests/OUSD Bench Mark plus 10% Unit Projects)

Academic Responsibilities:
A good student is a responsible student. As a student, to be successful academically, you have to attend class on time,
participate in class in positive ways, organize materials to make them easy for you to study or revisit. I will check your binder to
give you points in Academic Responsibilities category for organization and I will observe your participation in activities to give you
points in Academic Responsibilities category for participation. When you are not in class, you miss opportunities of learning and
participating. Therefore, your attendance is a part of Academic Responsibilities as well.

Academic Tasks:
A good student performs all academic tasks assigned to the best of his or her ability with a timely manner. You will have
chances to do work individually or with others in your group. All the work done will be checked and counted as your grades in
Academic Tasks. These works include homework, STQ and group work in class, etc. Academic Responsibilities play one of important
roles in your success in this class.
About homework: Usually you will have homework assignment on each lesson. You must do homework on line papers with name,
date, lesson, and # of problems clearly labeled. Usually you will have multiple days to do homework for each lesson. You will have
chances to ask for help in class or outside of class during lunch time. You must do homework in a timely manner because I will
collect all your homework on the day when you have a quiz/test. It is very important for you to have and bring all of them on
quiz/test day! You must do homework with good quality and full understanding because sometimes I will allow you to use homework
on quiz/test and turn them in together with your quiz/test. So, homework is done correctly will definitely help your doing well on
quiz/test!
Homework is graded basing on effort (number of problems done) and quality (work/steps shown) with all labels mentioned
above. You can earn a maximum of 10 points from each assignment. BUT you dont have to do ALL questions assigned if a lesson is
reviewing previous contents. I ask you do a minimum of ten problems if you know those contents well. Please use your time wisely
and do those questions that you need to practice on! However, I strongly recommend you do as many problems as you need to
practice on because most problems on quiz/test will be problems either pulled directly from homework or very similar to those
problems in homework!

About STQ: You will do STQ for each lesson. Normally you can earn a maximum of 6 points from each STQ. You must do STQ
on line papers with name, date, lesson, and # of problems clearly labeled. I will collect and grade them. Work must be shown, even
for multiple choice questions, in order to get full credit.
About group work: We will do group work to help you understand concepts that you are learning in this course or to apply the
knowledge that you are learning in this course in real-life situations. Some group works take longer than others. Usually each group
work is worth 10 points.

Assessments:
Assessments include quizzes, tests and OUSD bench mark exams; and Unit project:
I expect you do well on each quiz or test after fully understanding homework and STQ and group work that you have done.
Usually one or two quizzes will be given in the middle of a chapter and a test will be given upon completion of each chapter. You can
earn a maximum of 50 (or 60) points from a quiz and 100 points from a test.
You will have a project at the end of a unit usually, which summarizes what you have learned in the unit. It is very important
for you to understand our task, follow instructions, and produce quality work on time.

Absence and late work: Absence affects your academic performance. Please make every effort to be in class daily. All make-up
work should be done and turned in within three days after you return from an absence in order to get full credit. If you were in
class and you didnt do a given assignment, you are allowed to make-up and turn it in as late work to get half of the points that you
could earn when you turned it in on time. Late work will not be accepted if it is late for more than three days.

Extra Credit: There will NOT be extra credit assignments. I expect you earn your grade by doing well on daily work and regular
quizzes/tests.

Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated. For any cheating event, the student will be given a zero. Consequences also include a
phone call to your parents/guardian and a class suspension or a referral to the office.

Citizenship Grade: Your citizenship grade reflects your contribution to your classroom. An excellent citizen consistently comes to
class on time and prepared, and contributes to his/her classmates learning experience in positive ways.

Please keep ALL work for your record. Please check your grade online frequently so that you know where you stand.
Usually I up-date the grade book on every Friday. Please talk to me whenever you need help, or have concerns about your
grade.

Hope you have a successful year!
