Report on Walk-in freezer for Cafeteria

The only walk-in freezer in the north cafeteria having a capacity of approximately
13500 liters is out of order since October, 2014. This freezer (Model 14F-PORKKA)
was purchased on 09 Jan, 2001 with a unit price US $10,523.75. It started
malfunctioning from 2010 and was completely out of order from August, 2012. A
local refrigeration company (Pragati Refrigeration) repaired it on July, 2013. But
since October, 2014 it is out of service. The representatives of Pragati Refrigeration
Company visited the freezer and reported that the compressor unit is nonfunctioning. They told that they would further proceed in repairing the freezer if IUT
were ready to take charge of the compressor costing. Chairman, Cafeteria
Committee had a meeting with Honorable V.C. on this issued and it was decided
that IUT would no longer focus on the Walk-In freezer. Instead, the V.C. asked the
Provost to survey the local market for deep freezers (Fisher & Paykel). Accordingly, a
representative team of the Provost Committee paid a visit to the display center of
Fisher & Paykel at Bijoy Sharani, Dhaka. It was found that 701 liter brand can only
take 30 Kg of raw material at a time and sufficient time should be provided for
proper cooling. As the total freezing load is far beyond 30 Kg, this option did not
seem fitting for IUT cafeteria. So, the team went for alternative options and visited
the Bengal Refrigeration Co. in Farmgate, Dhaka. After some preliminary talk the
quotation for Walk-In freezer was asked from the company and they have already
sent it to IUT. According to the quotation the power consumption of the freezer is
1900 Watts and it will cost Tk. 9,30,000.00/- only. The company will also provide one
year free maintenance service. Further detail can be found in the quotation.
The information about the existing freezing capability, the current freezing load and
the quotation for the new walk-in freezer is attached herewith for kind information.
