Launch of our New Documentary

Discovery channel wishes to commission you to produce a New
and unique documentary that will attract a wide audience.
The idea must be creative and contain a lot of interesting
information that will keep your audience engaged at all times.
There is no time limit to your documentary as long as all the
information provided is represented in a creative way.
When presenting your documentary topic you must use
different forms of camera work (Live action, Existing footage
etc.)
Add background music throughout the production to create a
mood or emotion for the audience that will be watching.
The New documentary launches on the 10th June 2016

Idea

Moodboard

Audience
My target audience would be. Between the ages of 1825/30and this is due to the age range in which people are more
normally very fit and into the hobbies of sports and exercise.
With a topic like surfing you have to be very healthy and fit and
have very good balance/coordinate skills to be able to progress

in the water sport. With a sport like surfing its a form of

extreme sports in which it can become very dangerous
extremely quickly meaning that its a sport that has to be
mastered within the dangerous weather and water conditions.
My target audience will also be someone within the social group
of C1 and below this is due to them having to have a fair bit of
spare time to be able to continuously practice the sport and
gain all of the important skills needed for the sport. To gain
further research of who my target audience would be I created
a focus group to help me figure out just the type of people that
will be watching my production. They said that the sport is
connects with a very broad age range being from teenagers to
around early 30s. Also indicating that this age range of people
will have to be very fit and focused on keeping the talent for
the water sport.

With this particular documentary there are a lot health and safety issues
that I will do as much as I can do to stop any issues occurring.
People walking within the shots Make sure that when I am filming that
there are films letting people know not to be around that filming area.
Tripping over Surf boards or equipment on the floor - Make sure
everything is off the floor and you are in a suited area where you cant
trip.
Make sure all wires are away from the area - Make sure all power wires are
all way from being damaged or tripped over.
With the live action of surfing its very hard to stop any dangers from
happening as you are out there as an individual. But as long as all the
rules of surfing are applied e.g when falling off the surfboard if it goes up
in the air when at the surface put your hands on your head to stop the
surfboard fins from damaging your dead and knocking you out.

Discuss any legal issues you may face. Eg; sound, age restrictions
Existing footage within my documentary I will be using existing footage
which means that I will have to email the producer of the video to make
sure Ill be allowed to use it within my production
Background music used with this I will be using existing music so I will
again have to email those artist to make sure I am allowed to use them
within my production otherwise it will be classified as copyright.

Back up Surf schools
If either of the North Devon Surf school or Newquay Surf school dont have

Back Up dates
I am travelling down to Devon between the dates of 17th 20th May so
back up dates would have to be (The week of the 24th May)

22nd 27th May - if any extra footage needed to be filmed down

there or the weather was too bad effecting me film the sport.

Actors
There isnt any specific actors within my production as I am interview
surfing coaches at the varied surf school and the variety of locals. But in

case one of the managers of the busy cant do an interview I am able to

use a substitute of a surf coach instead.
My two camera crew are family members who have spare time as they will
be driving round with me. If one isnt able to make it I have a backup of
Richard Hancocks who is able to help out if needed. Richard Hancock

Weather
With my documentary the filming most of the time comes down to the
weather as if its raining heavy this will affect the waves making them
more violent, meaning no surfers will be in the water and this means the
surf school will close up until the weather has stopped. But I have back up
dates and will keep an eye on the weather forecast to see what times are
best to capture the live footage.
