Admission Procedure

An all-India level entrance examination CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is conducted to grant admission in
National Law Institutes in India. The LLB entrance Test for DU is considered as the second most importance
entrance exam for LLB. Many top level colleges conduct their own entrance exams. These exams are generally
conducted during the months of May and June. Some colleges also require the qualifying candidate to clear
group discussions and personal interview. The candidates who pass through all these stages is then selected for
admission in the respective college.

Eligibility Criteria
Students who have cleared the High School Examination or equivalent diploma with minimum 50% marks (45%
for reserved categories) are eligible to appear for CLAT and other law entrance examinations.
For the five-year LLB examination, candidate should be below 20 years of age on July 1 to apply for CLAT. While
in some other top colleges (NLU Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia, GGSIP University) the upper age limit is 21 years, in
AMU Law Faculty it is 22 years.
For the three-year LLB examination, there is no restriction on the upper age limit, whereas the minimum age is
required to be 17 years on the date of application.
The candidates who have opted for Open universities to obtain their XII or graduation or post-graduation degree
without any basic qualifications, are not eligible for admission in Law Colleges.

Students have many opportunities after successful completion of LLB. They can opt to become lawyers in State
and Central Government. They can be placed in Defence, Tax and Labor Law departments as lawyers, and can
rise to become public prosecutors, attorney generals, judges, etc. Candidates can also work as legal advisors in
private companies, organizations, firms and families One can also go for higher education and pursue LLM, a
post-graduate course.

Law schools offer boundless opportunities, but provide limited seats. The
following major entrance exams form the parameter for cracking the code to their
hallowed corridors:
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

This entrance examination is conducted for admission to 14 of the coveted


National Law Schools. The following national law universities (NLUs) consider
CLAT scores for admissions to their under graduate program:

Eligibility:

Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary


School/Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent
examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate
(45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and persons with Disability).
Should not be more than 20 years (in case of General/OBC
candidates and 22 years in case of SC/ST and persons with
Disability)
Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also
appear provisionally. However, they shall have to produce
proof of having passed the qualifying examination before or
at the time of admission with detailed mark sheet.
Candidate with compartment/supplementary in any subject
in the qualifying examination will not be eligible for
admission.

LSAT India

The LSAT - India is a standardized test designed by the USA based Law School
Admission Council (LSAC) for use by law schools in India. The LSAT - India will
be administered across 16 Pearson VUE test center locations in India for which
dates will be announced soon. The test will be administered in a paper and pencil

For 3 year LLB: Bachelors degree with at least 50%

LSAT India Pattern

Consists of four sections. Two of the sections contain Logical


Reasoning questions; one section contains Analytical
Reasoning questions; and one section contains Reading
Comprehension questions
The total duration of the test is 2 hours and 35 minutes
including a break of 15 minutes.The amount of time allotted
for each section is 35 minutes. There is one 15-minute break
between section 2 and section 3
All questions are in a multiple-choice format, some with four
answer choices and others with five.

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

The Symbiosis Law School conducts the SET, a common written test, for
admission to its undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University.
Each Symbiosis institute (including Symbiosis Law School) has its independent
selection process.
Eligibility:

The candidate should have passed 12th (10+2) examination


from any recognized board with minimum 50% marks (45%
for S.C./S.T.students) in first attempt (No Compartment).
Students who have appeared for their H.S.C finals and
awaiting results are also eligible to apply, subject to
submission of passing certificate by the announced date.

Candidate should be less than 20 years of age at the time of


appearing for SET (2 years relaxation for SC/ST candidates
i.e. 22 years)

Courses & Career after 12th in Law


Law is one of the career-oriented courses after 12th. In India, the student can pursue the legal
degree after the completion of the graduation in any discipline. There are the following degrees of
legal education in India.

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) 3 years

LLB is the most common degree of law education. The LLB takes the 3 year as the duration of the
course.

Integrated undergraduate degrees B.A. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., BBA LLB,


B.Com LL.B 5 years

One who wishes to do the integrated course can take the admission in 5 year integrated
programme after the completion of 10+2 exams.

Master of Laws (LL.M.) one/two years

LLM is the master degree in legal education having one or two-year duration. It has been started
in India before 2012.

Master of Business Law

The MBL is the master degree in legal education with the specialization in business law having
one or two-year duration.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

There is a good prospect for PhD after the legal education. Most of the highly reputed
autonomous institution provides the PhD programmes.

Integrated MBL-LLM/ MBA-LLM 3years

One who wishes to do the integrated course with business specialization can go for the MBL-LLM
or MBA-LLM. It is a 3 year degree programme after the completion of the LLB.

Admission in Law education


The students, who wish to get the admission in law, have to appear in CLAT (Common Law
Admission Test).
Student can go for law courses with any stream (Science stream/ Commerce stream / Arts
stream) in 12th.
The admission in the Jindal Law Global School is done through the LSAT (Law School Admission
Test) conducted by the Law School Admission Council, USA.
Some of the private and autonomous universities conduct their own admission test.
