Mr. John Schmidt

Dear Mr. Schmidt:
In recognition of Veterans Day, November 11, 2015, we would like to thank you for your
‘commitment to serving your country twice—first as a member of our nation’s military and again as
an AmeriCorps member here in Utah. Enclosed you will find a pin designating you as a member of
the newly established National Veteran Corps, an elite group of AmeriCorps members in every state
‘who are military veterans and/or who serve veterans and their families. We are incredibly grateful for
your service and dedication.
‘Through AmeriCorps, more than 18,000 veterans continued to serve their country in nearly 1,000
communities last year alone. Veterans and military family members are also receiving this support
directly through AmeriCorps programs carrying out a range of services to support our nation’s
heroes—nearly 800,000 across the country just last year. Here in Utah, you are making a powerful
impact on the most eritical issues facing our communities, from improving literacy and increasing
graduation rates to providing mental healthcare and disaster preparedness training. Because of your
decision to apply your skills and abilities to solving problems on the home front, children are being
mentored by caring adults, formerly homeless members of our community are transitioning into
housing and jobs, and individuals and families have access to healthcare that is only within reach
because of your hard work and sacrifice
It is my honor and privilege to welcome you to the National Veteran Corps. I hope this pin serves as a
reminder of the countless individuals, families, and communities across our state who are indebted to
you,
On behalf of myself, the Utah Commission on Service & Volunteerism (UServeUtah) and the State of
Utah, [thank you for your service
‘Yours in Service,
P- —— Sieddad op
