Strengths and weaknesses are internal aspects. This means that they are within the control of the
business. Opportunities and threats are external factors. This means that they are outside the
control of the business.

Strengths
They are any aspect of the business that adds value to its product or service. Here are some of the
strengths of First National Bank.

FNB helps the development of the university city from the small
The bank is owned and operated by local ownership since inception.
Has management team who acquires immense banking knowledge and expertise by long

years of experience
Has got a consultant on important matters of the banking industry.
Tries to serve the needs of the local communities which is the key for success.

Weaknesses

FNB has to acknowledge its weaknesses in order to improve and manage them. This can play a
key role in helping it to set objectives and develop new strategies. The following are some of the
weaknesses of FNB

Waiting for about 6 months without deciding any option that can solve the capital

inadequacy which is reported by Bank examiners from comptroller of the currency.


They didnt generate equity capital proportional to their total asset which is 16.3% to

9.7% annually and the ratio of equity to Asset declines by 5.8% annually.
Undertaking the business operation mainly on liabilities.
The bank is going opposite to growth.

Opportunities
A business uses its strengths to take advantage of the opportunities that arise.

Has good reputation since it is the first banking service provider in University city and

local ownership so as to be accepted by the community.


Increasing market to be served by the bank

Threats
If FNB is aware of possible external threats, it can plan to counteract them. By generating new
ideas, FNB can use a particular strength to defend against threats in the market. Threats to FNB
includes:

Increasing competition for deposits and commercial loans by commercial banks


Provision of attractive rate on deposit by money market mutual funds and at the same

time decreasing of FNBs interest margin.


The threat of new entrants to the market which the University City is receiving charters
for two commercial banks.
