Why do they need myosepta?


Whydotheyneedmyosepta?
Iftherewerenomyosepta,butsimplyaseriesof

interconnectedmusclefibers,thenthewave
wouldbeverydampened.Thatis,asanterior

fiberscontracttheywouldpullonposteriorfibers

andstretchthemsotheshorteningofthewhole
side would be much less than if the anterior
sidewouldbemuchlessthaniftheanterior
fiberscontractedwithouttheposteriorfibers
lengthening.Myosepta

keepstheposteriorfibersfromlengthening.

Itisstillunclearhowthemuscleforceis
transmittedtothetail.
Ifcontractionoccursawayfrombending,the
