calculators we had
slide rules.
In 1632, the circular
and rectangular
sliderule was
invented by W.
Oughtred

1642
Blaise Pascal
invented the adding
machine, France.

1822
Charles Babbage, a
mathematician,
proposed the
construction of a
machine that he
called the Babbage
Difference Machine.

1835
Charles Babbage
creates the Babbage
Analytical Engine.

1943
COLOSSUS the first
programmable computer
created by Alan Turing,
England.

1946
ENIAC first
electronic
computer, USA.

John Mauchly and John

Presper Eckert
developed the ENIAC I
(Electrical Numerical
Integrator And
Calculator). The
American military
sponsored their
research; the army
needed a computer for
calculating artilleryfiring tables, the
settings used for
different weapons
under varied conditions
for target accuracy.

1951
UNIVAC first commercial
computer. The U. S.
government were the first
to use the UNIVAC. The
second was Prudential
Insurance

1961
First interactive
computer game
created.

The game was called Spacewar it

was the basis for all the
"intergalactic shoot'em up" games
to this day.

1966

First handheld pocket calculator was

invented by Texas Instruments, Inc.
Results of the calculations appeared on
paper tape, and not on a screen.

1969
ARPANET was the

first wide area packet

switching network,
the "Eve" network of
what has evolved
into the Internet we
know and love today.
It connected four
universities.

1971
E-mail was
invented by
Ray Tomlinson.

Intel creates
the first
microprocessor.

Apple Computers is

5.25 floppy disks

The history of Myspace isnt a long one, since the

Web site has only been around for a few years.
Myspace.com is a social networking site, intended
to bring various users together for personal and
professional interaction.
It began in 2003 and has since grown to become
one of the most popular Web sites in the world.
It currently boasts over 80 million users and is
only gaining in its momentum.
Tom Anderson is the founder of Myspace.

2004

In February 2004 Mark

Zuckerberg launched

"The facebook"

The name taken from the

sheets of paper
distributed to freshmen,
profiling students and
staff.
Within 24 hours, 1,200
Harvard students had
signed up
After one month, over
half of the undergraduate
population had a profile.

2005 YouTube is created.
