Hypotheses/my goals
My goal in this research is to find out and compose a report of the known data with regard to time
travel. The opinion about time travel differs greatly among physicists. Thats why in this research
article my goal is to present the facts and look at the topic from different perspectives so it might
clarify this topic to some extent. My personal thoughts on the matter is that time travel is possible if
we are not bound by the laws of nature. If we found a way to go beyond to go beyond the laws of
nature and for example surpass the speed of light, time travel might become a reality.

Methodology
This topic peaked my interest when I was looking at a programme called Steven Hawking: Master of
the Universe. I decided to watch videos about it on youtube like Michio Kaku: The Universe in a
Nutshell. After studying the topic Universe intensively for a longer period of time I came to know
quite a bit about it. Thats why when I got the assignment to compose a research article I knew that I
wanted to do it about a topic that was related to the Universe. Time travel being a mysterious and
much speculated about topic became my choice because I myself did not know much about this topic
before I started my research.

Wormholes
If you want to see if time travel is possible you need to look at the fourth dimension. Every object
has a height, length and width. This is what we know as the three dimension. When we talk about
the fourth dimension we need to include another length which is time. Traveling in time basically
means traveling through the fourth dimensions.
If we were to believe Einsteins theory of relativity A hypothetical way of time traveling through the
fourth dimension is by means of a wormhole. A wormhole is basically a shortcut trough space and
time. Negative energy pulls space/ time in a short of tunnel leading to another place and time in the
Universe. If we were to have enough power and the right technology we might be able to create a
giant wormhole.

There is however a catch, if we were able to go back in time so called paradoxes would occur. If you
were to go back in time and kill your grand-father, you would never have been born. But if you were

never born you could never kill your grandparents and so on and so on. There are hundreds of these
paradoxes and when I think about them I can sadly conclude that time travel to the past is probably
never going to happen.

The natural time machine

I however stumbled across a sparkle of hope. Time travel in the future might be possible. Albert
Einstein came up with the theory that time flows like a river. In some places the water flows slower
than in other parts of the river. We now know he was totally right. The evidence right above our
heads in space which the Global Positioning System (GPS) proofs. The GPS reveals that time flows
slower on earth than in space. Thats why they have to make small corrections every time they send
data to earth. This is, according to Einstein, due to the gravitational pull of the earth. How heavier an
object (stronger gravitational pull), the stronger it drags on time.
With this information black hole natural time-machine phenomenon can be understood. The
heaviest object in our Milky Way is the supermassive black hole lying in the middle of it. Not even
light can escape its gravitational pull. Knowing that the heavier an object the more it drags on time it
is imaginable that a black hole containing the mass of 4 million suns crushed down into a single
singularity drags on time so much that it acts like a time machine. Imagine a crew of a spaceship
circles a hypothetical black hole for 10 years. If they would return to earth 20 years would have
passed.

Speed of light
While black holes do have an advantages over wormholes due to not creating paradoxes it is not very
practical. If we were to ever come even close to a black hole (closest one being 26000 light years
away) it would be impossible to come so close to the black hole that time moves considerable slower
and if you would come close enough that would be unavoidable.
Luckily there is a more pleasant way to approach time travel. This is the best and option regarding
traveling in time. This is the option I addressed in my hypotheses. You just have to travel near the
speed of light. This will cause you to move slower to insure you not reaching the speed of light. For
example if someone were to stand up and run in a train that travelled at the speed of light the
person would be slowed down to not upset the laws of psychics. This is the closest we come to time
travel. It is however still in the impossible category because nothing in the Universe let alone earth.

Conclusion
I found out researching this intriguing question that time travel is hypothetically possible. It stays,
how sadly this may be, with hypothetical. I discussed the three known ways for an object to move
through time and space. The wormholes, which in theory might work but would create paradoxes.
The black hole time-machine, which is extremely far away and dangerous. It would also not make you
travel far in the future, just a few years tops. And then we came to our final option being traveling

near the speed of light. This option is sadly also impossible to realise within our time period. We have
thus concludes that we potentially could use the laws of nature to become masters of time but not in
the present or near future. If the technology allows it we might have a shot at time-traveling in the
far future.
