After reviewing the subjects ability on his English spoken skill, we can say that the

subject need some attention especially on his pronunciation. There are some follow-up
activities that could be done to improve the subjects English proficiency .
The role of teachers is vital in ensuring the students learn the right pronunciation of
any English words. The classroom activities should be engaging and simple . One of the
classroom activities that could be done is language drilling (Rubin, 1975) where the
teacher models a word or sentence using clear pronunciation for the whole class to
repeat. The teacher then correct any unclear pronunciations and provide sufficient
repetition and visual support using pictures or any other types teaching aids. Then, the
teacher can proceed to mini dialogues where a student reads a question and another
student reads the answer. The teacher is to give support and encouragement and
correct any errors in pronunciation .
Besides that using ICT is also good in teaching language (Yunus, 2007), buy
English language CDs and DVDs for the students. Theres a wide range of CDs and
DVDs that provide proper English speaking and pronunciation. Cartoons are encouraged
because it attracts children more. However, please mind that not all cartoons use proper
English. It is good for a learner to listen to such conversations in order to improve their
English pronunciation.
The best way to improve spoken English is to have casual conversations as often
as possible on everyday topics (Pasternak & Bailey, 2004). The subject could
practice speaking the language with his family members and friends. It is encouraged for
him to go for competitions such as storytelling, public speaking or even debate. Besides
improving his spoken English, he will also gain valuable experiences and eventually
build up his confidence level.
Lastly, listening and speaking activities are equally important as it helps students to
be exposed to various sounds in English Language (Liu & Chu, 2010). It is
fundamental because in English, the spelling of the words does not necessarily reflects
its pronunciation. Therefore, student needs a lot of exposure in English language by
listening to audio clips and speaking activities such as storytelling and elocution. Teacher
plays an important role in correcting their pronunciation where needed, and facilitate
them through the whole learning process.
