These include about the ASEAN 2015, Philippine Catholic Schools Standards,
K-12 curriculum and the upcoming accreditation for 2016-2017.

schools philosophy, vision, and mission and core values. It is because this will
be the guidepost in the different educational road tracks that the institution
is going through.
One of the opportunities that we are going to face is the piloting of
our school of the Philippine Catholic Schools Standards which was initiated
by the CPBP and the CEAP, the PCSS is more tedious than any accreditation
because it will not just assess the curriculum, faculty and pedagogy but also
it will assess the Catholicity of our school, said Dr. Frank.
Meanwhile, Vandolph A. Corpuz, faculty of the Basic Education
Department reviewed and conveyed to the parents the different academic
policies that govern the institution. This includes the new assessment
system, curricular offering and the different academic requirements. He also

PCSS: A Challenge, A Reality, A

Standard
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines along with the Catholic
Educational Association of the Philippines geared towards the need to define what
really makes a Catholic Institution.
This challenge has posted during the post-modern era of globalization after
the numerous changes and development that is affecting the Philippine Educational
System.
With these, the Philippine Catholic Schools Standards was launched to further
clarify the definition of what really makes a Catholic School.
Modeled after the efforts of Dr. Lorraine Ozar and Dr. Michael Boyle of the
Center for Catholic School Effectiveness in Loyola University, Chicago; the CEAP
through the Superintendents Commission and National Basic Education Commission
ha develop thedefining characteristics, benchmarks, and standards for
Catholic basic education schools in the country.
The major goal is to make Catholic schools in the Philippines distinguished by
defining characteristics, guided by standards and operated through a corresponding
set of benchmarks and rubrics.
Series of consultations, seminars and conferences were conducted by the
CEAP and CBCP to develop what they dubbed as the Project PCSS.
The defining characteristics of Catholic school were then launched. These
include the following:
A Catholic school should be centered in the Person and Message of Jesus
Christ
A Catholic school should be participating in the Evangelizing Mission of the
Church
A Catholic school should be animated by the Spirit of Communion
A Catholic school should be established as an Ecclesial Institution
A Catholic school should be distinguished by a Culture of Excellence
A Catholic school should be committed to Integral Human Formation
A Catholic school should be engaged in the Service of the Church and Society
with Preferential Option for the Poor
A Catholic school should be promoting Dialogue on Faith and Life and Culture

Along with these defining characteristics, the CBCB and CEAP came out with
list of Domains and standards as well as benchmarks to be used in assessing the
Catholic institution. There are four domains namely: Catholic Identity, Mission;
Leadership and Governance; Learner development; learning environment; and
Operational Vitality of the institution. There are also 15 standards and
benchmarks that can qualify and quantify the data needed in assessing the
Catholicity of an institution.
Several pilot schools in the Philippines were tasked to implement these
benchmarks and later be assessed as well vis a vis with these standards and
benchmarks. OLPCC, being a Catholic College, was chosen as one of the Catholic
school in the Philippines to implement the Project PCSS.
As a response, OLPCC has been reengineering its Academic and
Administrative policies to comply with the laden standards and benchmarks of
the PCSS.
The Basic Education Department that includes the Elementary and High
School department were chosen to be the pilot departments.
It is expected that the outputs of this Project PCSS will be presented in future
conferences and conventions of the Catholic Education Association of the
Philippines for its wide implementation among the Catholic Schools and
Universities in the country.
