Course Description
This course deals with reading passages, understanding the text, using
context, building vocabulary, language focus, discussion and writing and crossword
puzzle.

II. Competence Standard


Students are able to understand various reading text using context and apply
some practical strategies dealing with the problem in reading
III. Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester, students are able to:
a. Comprehend various reading texts (recount, descriptive, narrative, anecdote,
exposition, reports).
b. Develop their skills of using context.
c. Obtain some practical method and strategies used to deal with problems in
reading
d. Build their vocabulary through reading texts
e. Transform knowledge by making the use of language

VI. Assignments
Individual assignment: Students write the texts based on the genres.
Group assignment: students divided into some groups and discuss the purpose,
context and structure of genre/text. And then analyze the grammatical pattern
features of the text (use of tense, technical language, specific or generic participant.
VII.Evaluation
Evaluation will be based on the following components:
a. Class attendance and participation
: 75 %
(Students with less than 75 % attendance are not eligible to take the exams)
b. Assignment
: 20 %
c. A midterm test
: 30 %
d. A final test
: 50 % +
