LETS SOAR IN 2015!

A message from the Superintendent
Lindbergh Schools is honored to provide high-quality education for all students, and the support we receive from
our community is unparalleled. As we
continue to proactively address rapid
enrollment growth, residents have likely
noticed quite a bit of construction going
on around the district.
This fall, we are breaking ground on
Dressel Elementary School (p. 17), a 650-student building
that will serve students in grades K-5. Our projections
show that Dressel will be completely full when it opens in
fall 2017.
Growth is headed toward Lindbergh High School (p. 6),
and to that end, we are doubling the cafeteria space at
LHS, and replacing original bleachers and flooring in Gym
3. Weve also added two science classrooms and will modernize the library.
Located behind Truman Middle School, Lindbergh Early
Childhood Education West (p. 18) is opening this fall to
serve the districts youngest students, ages 2-5. LECE
West is home to part-day preschool, while full-day early
childhood education will remain at LECEs main campus,
next door to LHS.
Lindbergh continues to lead the state academically, earning Missouris No. 1 ranking for student achievement for
five straight years. Seven Lindbergh schools are National
Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, and six are National
Schools of Character. This year, Lindbergh High Schools
graduating class earned 569 scholarships worth $15.1 million.
Our themes in recent years have reflected your generous
community support through this transition of growth. First,
we were Spreading Our Wings, then it was Time to Fly.
Now, Lets SOAR! Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,

Lindbergh Schools Foundation Programs:

The Spirit of Lindbergh Teacher Grant Program awards
grants of up to $500 each year to teachers who propose
innovative and exciting projects for their classrooms. These
programs are supported by donations from parents and local
businesses, and from the Foundations online auctions. Every
dollar of every donation to the Spirit of Lindbergh fund is
invested in safe, high-yield accounts. Only the interest
earned on these accounts is used to fund the teacher grants,
so each gift will continue to generate income to fund these
grants forever. In January, 14 teacher grants were awarded,
bringing the total number of funded projects to 63 since the
programs establishment in 2008. These selected projects
have touched the lives of hundreds of children by more
effectively engaging students in the learning process.
The Lindbergh Schools Foundation Scholarship Program
manages and administers not only its own LSF Scholarship
Fund, but also a number of additional scholarships established in the names of former teachers, administrators, parents and alumni. In May, 42 scholarships were awarded to
deserving seniors with a total value of more than $42,000.
The scholarship program is funded through the purchase of
engraved bricks in the LHS Spirit Garden, online auctions,
clothing collection boxes located on several campuses, and
direct donations from supporters.
The LHS Alumni Association provides scholarships to
Lindbergh High School seniors and supports various LHS
programs using funds raised through alumni donations and
sponsored events, including annual trivia night and awards
ceremony events. LHSAA also maintains the alumni database, assists in organizing class reunions and helps support
targeted LSF initiatives. For more information, please visit
www.lindberghfoundationstl.com and click LHS Alumni

GIFTED EDUCATION
LEAP
LEAP is the gifted education
program for Lindbergh Schools.
Identified students in grades K-5
attend classes once a week at the
LEAP Center, located on the lower
level of Sperreng Middle School. The
LEAP curriculum consists of thematic,
multidisciplinary units that encourage
exploration and investigation, critical
thinking, problem solving and
creativity.
Program for Exceptionally Gifted
Students (PEGS)
The St. Louis regional public school
PEGS program is one of curricular

acceleration
and
enrichment
opportunities for exceptionally gifted
children in grades 1-12. Students
qualifying for PEGS are few in number
among the general population. This
regional program was established to
assist local school districts in
providing for the unique needs of
these exceptional students.
Intellectually and academically
exceptional
children
need
a
demanding and unusually fast-paced
curriculum. These students also
benefit from regular interaction with
intellectual peers.
The goal of PEGS is to provide a

Mike Kuhn
Director of Gifted
Programs
challenging curriculum that enables
these students to be creative
producers, socially well-adjusted
individuals and effective leaders.
The Lindbergh PEGS program is
located at Concord Elementary
School, Sperreng Middle School, and
Lindbergh High School.
