Youth Directors
Delegates

Dear Delegates:
Re: IAD Pathfinder Camporee, 2017.
I am pleased to welcome each of you as part of this Caribbean Union Pathfinder delegation to the fellowship of
this Inter-American Division Pathfinder Camporee 2017. Thank you for joining us in Santo Domingo, Dominican
Republic for six, fun-packed, spiritually enriching days where you will be inspired to do more for Jesus Christ.

OBJECTIVES FOR THE CONGRESS ARE:

Inspire the youth to a powerful life in Christ through prayer, Bible study, and witnessing.
To affirm SDA identity
Promote Christian fellowship in a multi-cultural environment through experiences of witnessing,
community impact projects, and tourism with a purpose.
Share the blessings of Pathfindering in each Conference/Mission through reports of activities and
programs performed based on the Union initiatives and of their own territories.
Allow the Pathfinders to express their vision of Youth Ministries through encounters with higher leaders, in
discussion and analysis forums, and opinion surveys.

During the Congress you will hear from some great speakers including Pastor Gilbert Cangy, Youth Director of
the General Conference and Pastor Johnathan Tejel, the World Pathfinder Director, as well as other special
guests. This electronic booklet is my way to provide you with an idea of what you can expect before and
during the Camporee and what we hope to achieve over the few days that we would be together. I hope that
you will have a great time! I hope that you learn some new things, make some new friends, and gather some
great information to take home and share with your church, community, and family. Get actively involved.
Have fun. You may even be blessed in the process.
Sincerely,

Anthony S. Hall, Director

FLIGHTS
There will not be any chartered flights as some have previously suggested. We recommend two
possible routes to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from the Caribbean.

Go to Trinidad and take Copa Airlines from Trinidad to Panama and then on to Santo
Domingo. Those delegates from any territory in the Union without United States Visas are
advised that this is their best option.

American Airlines from Miami directly to Santo Domingo.

Important Note: There are multiple airports in the Dominican Republic. When you purchase a
ticket make sure that you are booking to arrive at De Las Americas International (airport code
SDQ). Nothing else will do and if you do otherwise we will not accept any responsibility
whatsoever for transport to get you were you need to be. Directors of Conference & Missions
should choose to have everybody from their field booked on a single flight so that we do not have
to go back and forth to the airport to pick-up 1 or 2 persons.

TRANSPORTATION

A local company has been contracted to provide ground transport for us. Please note the following
transfers:

Depending on when you arrive you may have to wait on the arrival of a second
flight so that the bus can leave the airport or seaport completely filled. Directors of
Conferences & Missions should choose to have as many persons from their field
booked on a single flight so that we do not have to go back and forth to the airport
to pick-up 1 or 2 persons. If at all this happens the price will increase to the
individuals involved.

Tour to various sites

TO FACILITATE AIR PORT PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF WE NEED YOUR FLIGHT ITINERARIES.
PLEASE SEND THEM TO YOUR YOUTH DIRECTOR ASAP FOR COMPILATION AND
CONFIRMATION. IF ANY CHANGES ARE MADE PLEASE LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY. YOU
ARE REMINDED THAT IF YOU DO THINGS AT THE LAST MINUTE IT IS LIKELY THAT MISTAKES
WILL OCCUR AND SERVICE TO YOU MAYBE ADVERSLEY AFFECTED.
MEALS
The first meal shall be supper on April 10, 2017 and the last meal shall be Lunch on April 17, 2017.
Meals are not included in the registration fee. A separate cost of US$10.00 per day per person is

days will constitute three meals. All money for meals must be paid before departure. This must be
paid to the Union by February 28, 2017.
DRESS CODE
DO DRESS ACCORDING TO CHURCH STANDARDS. (I know that you are aware of these standards.)
No shorts of any kind for male or female. The Caribbean Union will provide you with a T/polo
shirt. We will wear this with either a khaki or black bottom. (Your choice)
Uniform:
The uniform will be used during the opening ceremony, the Friday night consecration service and on
Sabbath. The rest of the time will be used the sports uniform and casual wear. For sports we would
like each club to be uniformed in its conference field Uniform.
First Aid
The Camporee will provide a central medical post which will attend to cases that require it. Each
Club should bring a nurse or nurses based on the size of your delegation as well as your first aid kit
to take care of minor cases.
The clubs with members who have special conditions or are using specific drugs (asthmatics,

shall also notify the medical corps of the Camporee of all special needs.

SALES
Materials, patches, insignia etc. for all the varied youth Ministries together with other items will be
on sale. Travel with extra cash to purchase personal items or ask your churches, clubs and groups to
give you money to purchase items on their behalf.
SECURITY
Like any other place Santo Domingo has its security issues. Take note of the following to keep you
safe:

You must not leave the organized official Caribbean Union delegation at any time to
go out on your own except you first secure the permission of your youth director
and work out and agree on the details of the journey. You must sign out and in on
each occasion.

Look out for each other and travel in groups when you are authorized to leave the
main delegation.

11 | P a g e

Do not display cameras, IPads, Tablets etc. casually on the streets

Do not keep all of your cash in one place.

Scan a copy of the information page of your passport and email it to yourself before
traveling.

Secure your valuables by leaving them with you counselor or Director of your club. .

FLAGS
Each delegate should travel with a small triangular hand-held flag of your country or any other
country within the Caribbean Union for waiving and making noise on behalf of the delegation. Each
Youth Director should also travel with the large Country Flags represented in your field.

WEATHER
The weather is typically Caribbean. Take a sweater or light coat for night time activities.

AIRPORT TAXES
From what I understand the airport tax for Dominican Republic is usually included in the price paid
for the airline ticket. PLEASE CONFIRM WITH YOUR AIRLINE TO MAKE SURE. IF IT ISNT, YOU WILL
HAVE TO PAY AT THE AIRPORT.

CURRENCY
The Peso is the National currency of the Dominican Republic. It comes in denominations of 20, 50,
100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 Peso notes. In and around the tourist zones and resorts the American
Dollar is fairly well accepted even though the rate of exchange may not be ideal. Tourist Taxis, hotel
stores and Excursions often publish their rates in U.S. Dollars and gladly accept them. At May 30,
2016 the rate was about 45 pesos to 1 US Dollar.
ELECTRICITY
Electrical sockets (outlets) in the Dominican Republic usually supply electricity at between 110 and
120 volts AC.
AIRPORTS AND FLIGHTS
There is more than one airport in the Dominican Republic. Please make sure that you book your
flight to arrive at Las Americas International Airport (SDQ), also known as the Jos Francisco Pea

12 | P a g e

Gmez Airport. This is less than 30 minutes from the capital city of Santo Domingo and very close to
the park where we will camp. Do not enter the country by any other airport.
