Types of Board Game


Scrabble
You have to arrange letters into words
on a playing board.
Letters earn you points and special tiles
on the board give you extra points.

Upwords
It is similar to Scrabble.
Pupils use their collection of letters to build words on the crossword
style grid.
Pupils can place letters on top of the exisiting letters to change a
word that is already on the board.
For example, pupil may add aT to the wordbashturning it intobath.

Monopoly
It is an interactive game that can
motivate pupils to learn.
Each player will take turn to throw the
dice and complete the task required
before moving on.

1. Stimulate pupils congnitive development
Board games includes some type of strategy (Q&A, complete
the sentences, matching the word with correct acronyms and
etc)
Pupils learn best when they are engaged and having fun.

Pupils reinforce their knowledge gained in a meaningful and
stress-free condition.

Pupils will learn to be patience as they need to remember the
rules as well as when it is their turn to play the game.
Pupils self-esteem will be improved as well through positive
interaction with their peers.

Weaknesses
1. Instructions are too complicated to understand
Board game is more suitable for level 2 pupils as something
the instructions are too abstract for the pupils.
Pupils will get frustrated and refused to participate the board
game if they do not understand the instructions and rules.

2. It is bored to keep on playing the game for hours upon hours.
Pupils have short attention span to wait for their turn.
Pupils will feel disinterest when playing the same game over
and over again.

3. It is time-consuming and money-consuming


This can be proved when teacher is required to produce customised
board game for specific teaching and learning lesson.
The materials needed to produce an attractive and useful board game
are quite expensive (Printer catridge, mounting board and etc)
It challenges teachers creativity as well as teacher needs to consider
pupils proficiency level,
designing board game.
