My Claim...
The Battle of Shiloh was the most significant battle of the
Civil War ,because of the Casualty count, the back and
forth battles, and the Drive to destroy one another.

The Casualty Count

-

In April of 1862, there was a two day war called the Battle of Shiloh.
The battle was between the North troops and the South troops.
The south gave a surprise attack and attacked the north.
According to Civilwar.org, there were 30,000 Confederate troops, and after
reinforcements, there were around 40,000 Union troops.
In total, more than 23,000 people died in the battle of the two days.
was the bloodiest battle in american history at this time. This means that
throughout the war, out of the other battles, this was the most effective
and most deaths (civilwar.org)

The drive to destroy one another

- Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States swore to protect
the Union.
- Abraham Lincoln wanted to make sure, the people of the Union dont
think of the Confederates as a threat but then again, he couldnt have the
confederates make him look bad.
- The south was really proud and loyal to its ways.
- The Confederates were willing to fight to keep their laws or they were
willing to take down the Union.
- The drive between the two sides were strong. They both wanted
something different but neither wanted to give in.

The back and forth between the two sides

- According to nps.org, the Confederates found out about General Ulysses
S. Grant regrouping in west Ohio
- Confederates attacked the Federal troops on surprise
- Confederates were able to defeat the Federal troop by the Shiloh meeting
house in southern Tennessee
- Those were were werent killed, retreated to meet General Buell
- General Buell with General Grant, regroup: together they, had 40,000
troops
- South only had 30,000 troops
- North reclaimed the their territory from the South

Conclusion...
In conclusion, the Battle of Shiloh was the most significant battle during the
Civil War because of the Casualty count, the drive to destroy one another, and
the back and forth battle between the two sides. HIstorians today, view this
battle as one of the bloodiest battles in America during this time. This means
that the battle is very significant because no other battles were as bad as this
one. The North may have been influenced by defeating the South (Southern
generals were better than the Norths). The North may been given hope in
finding out that the North can actually defeat the South.

This short paragraph sums up all of the war with all the needed information on the five 5s on the war. THis was
helpful to answering such things like, where all this happened, when it happened, who it was with, and why?

I didnt use all of the paragraphs but this website was used to go deeper into what the previous sources already told
me. I also used this website for the strategies for the two sides of the war. This website also told me about the
casualties. Overall, this website's help me with finding out neccesary information on the war, helping me out with my
claim.

This Source was very useful. This source also told me about the generals themselves and what did during the war and
their strategies.

To get some basic background info on the Civil War, I really thought of this was a good source for me. Ive learned
about the Civil War before but I forgot and this was really helpful in finding out the time of events and the people
included in the war.

Secondary Sources

This sources was a child's refresher on what happened. I thought of this as a secondary source because it's not
exactly the best written event by event timeline
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/06/why-shiloh-matters/?_r=0
This sources is also secondary because it was written in a more present time rather than a newspaper written the day
after the Battle of Shiloh. This source was just a more modern day look at what happened way long ago. I used this
source to rephase what professionals write about the battle. The person who wrote this wrote with a more modern
laguage and eaier to read.

This wikipedia website was just for clarification on anything I was missing. This source was barely used because I
knew everything from the other sources but this sources was useful just in case I read something that was on other
sources. I would use this to clarify what really happened (connected the dots)
Civil War Cornell packets
I used the Cornell notes knowledge, I didn't have the packets but I did remember some things and was able to use
that certain info for my evidence.
