    Whiteresidentsdon'twantAfricanAmericanstomoveintotheirneighborhoods,andtheyare
    keepingthemoutthroughviolentmeansofactionsuchasbombings.Lenaworriesforher
    familyswellbeing,sowhenMr.Linderfindshertoinformherofthecommunitiesdiscontent,
    thataddsontothepileofstress.Tomakemattersworse,WalterLeeYounger,Lenassonloses

    Ladiesandgentlemenofthejury,todaywewillbehearingfromWalter,Beneathaand
    RuthYoungeraboutthevisittheyhadfromKarlLinder,aClybourneParkImprovement
    Associationrepresentative.WewillalsobehearingfromWilhelminaOthellaJohnsonthe
    bombingincidentsinvolvingcoloredfamiliesmovingintocaucasiancommunities.
    Therefore,TheCPNAviolatedLenaYoungerscivilrightsbecausethe14thAmendment
    forbidsstatesfromdenyinganypersonlife,libertyorproperty,withoutdueprocessoflawor
    todenyanypersonwithinitsjurisdictiontheequalprotectionofthelaw.Byattemptingtobuy

    Mrs.Youngersrecentlypurchasedhome,Linderandthecommitteeheisheadoftriedtodeny
    thefamilyofpropertywithoutdueprocessofthelaw.
    Furthermore,theNationalHousingActof1934,whichestablishedtheFederalHousing
    Administrationpracticedredlining,whichisdiscriminatoryandhasblockedthehomeownership
    pathforAfricanAmericanswhilecreatingandreinforcingcommunitiessegregatedbyrace.
    Racistcommittees,suchasCPNA,havepreventedblacksfromenteringwhiteneighborhoodsby
    usingviolenceandintimidation,asMrs.Johnsonobservedinthenews.Notonlyareactionslike
    thisdestroyingafamily'sdreams,butbypreventingawholeracefromimprovingtheireconomic
    statustheyareguaranteeingculturaldysfunctionandadeep,generationalpoverty(Bouie).
    ThedefensemayarguethatLinderandCPNAwereworkinginthebestinterestforthe
    family.AlthoughinPlessyvFergusonittheSupremeCourtdecidedthattheFourteenth
    Amendmentwasonly"toenforcetheabsoluteequalityofthetworacesbeforethelaw,"andnot
    toenforcesocialequalityoracomminglingofthetworacesupontermsunsatisfactoryto
    either,itwaslaterestablishedthroughtheBrownvBoardofEducationcasethatseparate
    educationfacilitiesareinherentlyunequal.TheSupremeCourtruledthatsegregationinpublic
    educationdeniedAfricanAmericanchildrentheequalprotectionofthelawsguaranteedbythe
    FourteenthAmendment.ThedefensemayalsosaythatLinderneverapproachedthefamily,but
    witnesstestimoniesfrom3individualsthatwerehomeatthetimeLinderfirstapproachedthe
    familyaswellasthewholeYoungerfamilythatwitnessedLinderssecondattemptwhenWalter
    Leecalledhimtodenyhisofferfacetoface.
    Thereisonlyoneconclusiontomake:KarlLinderandtheCPNAareguiltyofviolating
    LenaYoungerscivilrightsgrantedtoherbytheFourteenthAmendment.Thankyou.
