Epicurus On Pleasure Pleasure is not always good. When one over-indulges in
lifes pleasures they become dependent on them and will eventually not be able to
live without them. Similarly, suffering is not always bad. Sometimes, one must
endure suffering to obtain what they seek. For example, I must endure the suffering
of practicing in order to obtain perfection in the playing of music.
Andrew Carnegie Wealth Wealth should be rightfully obtained, and as it is
distributed through society, it mostly is like that. There is the upper, middle, and
lower class. Although there is an argument for equality, in which all wealth is spread
evenly across a society, such a system would not work, because those who work for
their wealth, get the same as those who dont. So there will be no incentive to work.
The problem of rich and poor is not a problem, as long as there are opportunities for
the poor to become rich.
Solomon Schimmel Greed Greed is good when it acts as a motivator. It provides
a goal which a person must strive for. However, if greed is too powerful, then the
person may go overboard with their efforts to obtain what theyre greedy for and as
a result, the rest of their life will be neglected. Greed is a source of unhappiness
when what one is greedy for is unobtainable. For example, one might be greedy for
anothers love, but that person might not love them.
