Andhavingperhapsthebetterclaim,
Becauseitwasgrassyandwantedwear
Thoughasforthatthepassingthere
Hadwornthemreallyaboutthesame,

Andboththatmorningequallylay
Inleavesnostephadtroddenblack.
Oh,Ikeptthefirstforanotherday!
Yetknowinghowwayleadsontoway,
IdoubtedifIshouldevercomeback.

Ishallbetellingthiswithasigh
Somewhereagesandageshence:
Tworoadsdivergedinawood,andI
Itooktheonelesstraveledby,
Andthathasmadeallthedifference.

ThepoemTheRoadNotTakenbyRobertFrost,Ifeelconveysacomplexprogressionof
mylifethathighlightsmanyeventsthathaveoccurredinmylife.Thispoemconsistsof
arhythmicschemeABAABwhichhasbeenplacedtorepresentaseriousorstricttone,
tocreateareflectivemood.Itiscomposedoffourstanzaswithfivelinesineachinan
overallmoderatelength.Inthefirststanza,atravelerisputforthinfrontofaforkinthe
pathandheisleftwonderingwhichonetotake.Althoughhecannotpleasebothsides
bychoosingboth,hecanfindtheroutelesstravelledbyasstatedinthesecond
stanza.Andhavingperhapsthebetterclaim,Becauseitwasgrassyandwantedwear.
Inthethirdstanza,ithasbeenagreedthatbothpathsareinfactequalandhemight
taketheotherpathanotherday,yetheknowsitwillneverhappen.Andboththat
morningequallylay,Inleavesnostephadtroddenblack.Oh,Ikeptthefirstforanother
day!IdoubtedifIshouldevercomeback.Inthefourthstanza,thetravelerknowsthat

somedayisasked,he/shewillsay,Itooktheonelesstraveledby,Andthathasmadeall
thedifference.

InthepublishedpoemIconsidermyselftobethattravellerwhoencountersmanypathsin
lifewhereasasallmaydifferbutrequirethesamelevelofefforttowalkthrough.Inmy
inspiredpoemIhaveincludedandmirroredthemainliterarydevicesused.Adeep
metaphorisbeingforeshadowedthroughoutthepoem,withthetwoidenticalpaths(the
fork).Anopposingtensionisbeingcreated,withtwooptionsathand,thereisabattle
betweenchoice,luckandfate.Inalltheeventsthathaveoccurredinmylife,a
combinationofthethreehasalwaysbeenconnectedtotheresultsthatoccur.Repetition
andechohasbeenakeyliterarydevicethroughoutthepoem.Followingeachthought,
thetravellerisbeingbroughtbacktothemomentwherehe/shewaslefttochooseapath
andbeginstorecreatethesceneusingfigurativelanguage.Figurativelanguagecanbe
foundinlinessuchas,Becauseitwasgrassyandwantedwear,Inleavesnostephad
troddenblack.TheRoadNotTakenasinformedinthetitlefinisheswithsenseof
guilt,insuchasthelastlinebreakingthatstricttoneendingwith,Andthathasmade
allthedifference.

Unexpectedsurprisesbothnearandfar
Connectedlikeconstellationseachoneastar
Likeatwosidedknifeeachwouldscar

Althoughcandystreetmayremain
Withlollipopsandswirlforeternity
Ifonedesirestocaptureandclaim
Likecottoncandy,likefame,
Sowillthepiecesofidentity

Ishallbeleftwondering
Themistakesofyesterday
Shallbecoveredlikecherryblossomfrosting
Manyleftstunned,guiltyandwandering

Thispoeminspiredby,TheRoadNotTakenmatches/paralleltothestyleof
fourstanzas,fivelineseachwitharhymeschemeABAAB.Thetitleisironicand
metaphoricimplyingthatmylifeislikeaCandyStreethowever,thereissadnessleftto
overcome.Thetitleisbothmetaphoricandironic,meaningthatmylifeislikewalking
downCandyStreet,butsadnesscanbefoundifyoureadbetweenthelines.Punctuation
suchasthecommasaswellasthedashinthelaststanzatocreateaninterrupted
thoughtwhichwasalsoincludedinthepublishedpoem.
