MATCH REPORT:

Qtr 1
The opening hitout of the season saw the Royals take the field on Lindwall Oval with a
number of new players joining the ranks. It will be a good test for the boys and their new
playing combinations.
Good possession early sees a set kick from 30 m out with another great high mark just in
front. The kick was across the face of the goal and the possession changed over to the Cats.
Some good on ball effort produces a good run of play down the ground and the first points
and goal of the game to Marist Royals.
Some back and forward footie followed by some good marks by both teams. Marist keep the
ball showing some good team skills in the forwards and were rewarded with two behinds.
Another encouraging set of play with Royals taking the ball mark by mark up the field for a
well-earned goal.

Some late progress for the Cats resulted in a kick with only a behind for their efforts.
A very strong quarter that the Royals players should be very proud of.
Marist 2-2-14 to Cats 0-1-1
Qtr 2
A lot of running early in the quarter with across field attempts to move the ball forward. A
great result with a Royals goal to start the 2nd quarter, like they did the first.
Again at the bounce the Royals boys push down to their goal with the ball popping off the
ground and with good position crossing the line for another goal.
The Cats posted their first goal through some good on the ball efforts.
A further goal to Marist that resulted from possession from the throw in and a concerted
effort in pursuit of their sticks.
Down the Marist end again from the bounce with a trademark goal from quick possession.
Cats quickly took it from the ball up and Marist punished down as the Cats posted a further 6
points and soon after a quick behind.
Some great marking and tackling and Royals continued to push at their goals. Unlucky not to
have posted another two goals as the second quarter is closed out. A very solid quarter and
showing some real match domination.
Marist 6-6-42 to Cats 1-2-8
Qtr 3
Some 2nd half early determined efforts from the Cats saw the ball progress towards the Cats
goals. A straight kick and the Cats post the first goal of the quarter.
A fast bit of running up the ground have Royals scoring a behind. Further great work on the
ball with good positional play and marks see a great kick off the left foot for the Royals
resulting in a goal.
Some tough play on the wing with back and forward resulted in a Cats behind, followed by a
goal.
From the bounce the Cats again struck some good combinations up the centre for another
goal.
Royals seem to have come out lacking some consistency with the Cats scoring another goal
then a behind. Cats post yet another goal in the quarter, with Royals just with their noses
still in front as the hooter sounds.
Marist 7-7-49 to Cats 6-5-41

Qtr 4
A great mark about 40 metres out straight in front with Royals first goal for the final quarter.
Some more upfront play with a penalty some good possession and a cracking mark directly
in front again. Royals goal and a much better start to the quarter.
Cats fighting back as they see the game slipping from their grip. A Cats attempt touched by
good Royals defence resulted in a Cats behind. Some further contested ball resulted in a Cats
goal.
Some strong drive as the quarter closed out with Marist winning the first game of their 2016
season.
Marist 9-9-63 to Cats 7-6-48
