Good morning everyone,

The honourable ones the principle of SMA Swasta R.A.Kartini, all teachers especially Ms..., and all of
my friends from tenth-two.
First of all, I want to thank God for giving us health and time so that we can gather together here
today.
Ladies and gentlemen
It is a great honour for me to stand right here in front of all of you to give a speech about education
under the title Studying for score?"
Talking about Studying in our ages now, I think its like a never ending story and like our daily
breath. From our parents, grandparents, uncle and aunt, till our neighbour have us to study correctly.
And I think that advice had never change from our kindergarten until our senior high school. Maybe,
around of you have been being bored about study. From kindergarten till senior high school, our daily
school life is never changing. Wake up in the morning and go to school, listen to the teachers lecture,
sudden quiz, monthly test, and do homework. After school, attend cram school, repeat the studied
lesson in home. And then, day has been night and you have spent all day for studying.
But, are you sure that that your studying process every day is a correct way of studying?
Why do I ask you that question?
Honestly, because I am worried that all of you started to think that the definition of studying is
following the academic activities in school, remember the school lesson, and afford to score a high
score in every lesson.
So what should we do? Do you know how hard to be a student in Indonesia nowadays? Why our
parents, teachers ask us to study hard? Dont we have struggle for studying to fulfil their request?
And we think we spend all day just for studying.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Its not because I dont agree how hard the struggle of students in Indonesia. But what I mean here is
the definition of studying process that we have do is only studying not learning. A bit
reflection about Indonesia education condition, Indonesia ranked second from below around 65
countries in an academic test that includes Mathematic, Logic, and Languages in 2012.
Ranked second from below around 65 countries wont be a proudness at all but just a reflection for all
of us. Why? Why did a big country like Indonesia rank second from below in that test? Are

students from another country are smarter and more diligent than Indonesia students? Or
whether Indonesia students are dummies?
Ladies and gentlemen
To answer all that questions, allow me to share about Google Science Fair project that organized
annually. In this project, the students around 14 18 years old show their skill to share what they have
done in their school.
First, a 16 years old girl, Elif Bilgin from Istanbul, Turkey won 2 awards. Those are Scientific
American Science in Action Award and Voters Choice Award. So what has she done in her young
age? Elif that loves doing chemist experiment in laboratory or her private kitchen in her house is
angry and sad to see so many plastic trashes in Istanbul. When she was fourteen, she saw that as a big
problem that cant be let the way. She is aware that the synthetic polymer plastic trash are nonbiodegradable or hard to be decomposed by micro-organism in the ground. For example, plastic
bottle, plastic paper, and etc.
In her young age, she started trying to make an alternative material to change plastic that we used to
use with bio-organic plastic. Finally, after two years, she found the best organic material. That is
banana skin that its extract she combined with Sodium Metabisulfat (Na 2S2O5). Then she boiled away
that combination. Then the combination extract is combined again with HCl and NaOH that have
different alternative concentration. Imagine if all companies in this world implement her invention?
Her curiosity could change the world!
Second, a 15 years old boy, Viney Kumar from Sydney, Australia. He won Google Science Fair award
in 15-years category. Although, he lives in Sydney, actually he is not an Australian, but he is an Indian
that attend school in Sydney.
In some chance, he went back to his country, India and found a problem that makes worry. For you
that do not know, India is acknowledge for the worst traffic jam. If it is not New Delhi, you wont find
any traffic light. Because of that, vehicle like ambulance and fire brigade car that should be
prioritized, are very hard to arrive to the destination on time. Still, India also have a problem with
people social awareness to prioritize ERV (Emergency-Respond Vehicle).
And Viney thought that it couldnt be that way. He also want to think about solution of that. And
finally make a solution for that. Before I tell you the solution that he found, I want to tell you
something. For example, in Indonesia, 18 years old students are studying to enter School of Electro
and Information Bandung Institute of Technology (STEI-ITB) for studying programming and coding,
but Viney has studying programming by himself when he was 15. With his spirit of learning, he
doesnt only say I am sorry about the problem in his surroundings. But he really does some research

starting from effectiveness of ambulances siren in reducing arriving time of ERV (EmergencyRespond Vehicle).
What he found is GPS Technology that featured with alert facility whether there is an ERV in some
radius. Hence, the vehicles that have a device / smartphone which featured by GPS sensor, so they can
respond if there will be an ERV come closer.\
Nah,, now you understand what I mean that definition of studying that we do every day just
studying not learning. When, here we do some cram school, remember the equation and
notebook, they that have the same age like us have been thinking about how to implement their
knowledge for the solution of a problem in their surroundings.
Ah, thats because they are genius. We are only normal ones. And also they live in a developed
country that has so many great facilities, not like us that live in Indonesia.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Please, dont make that statement as an excuse for you not to make an achievement. If you have that
thinking in your mind, that is it, you really will be a normal person that you always think. Talking
about facility, maybe those two are happen to be from all developed country. But if you want to see
another finalist of Google Science Fair, most of all are from India, Nigeria, even one of the winner of
Google Science Fair 2012 is from a very small and desolate country in Africa, Swaziland. So, dont
make the facility as an excuse for get achievement. If you always have motivation to learn, there will
always have the way.
So what is the key to be cool like them?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
There is only one way. Try to change all about definition of studying in your mind. The definition
of studying is not only reading textbook or remembering Physics or Mathematics equation but you
must make that studying is interesting and funny. So, from now try to change your thinking paradigm
about studying. Explore many things earlier, learning programming languages from now, trying a
simple experiment in your house, etc. And from now, try to start coming to the library frequently to
learn about Time Travel that are not studied in Physics class, to social experiment that can change our
thinking paradigm about social people. And also, try to care about problem in your surroundings.
From what you listen, you can conclude that those two Google Science Fair winners before start their
project, their afford always started from seeing some problems to be solved.
Finally, I hope this speech that I deliver today will be inspire all of you . Thank you for giving me an
opportunity to talk and to share about education by speech. I want to apologize if there are any
mistakes that I made in this speech. Thank you and good morning.
