Dear Parent/Carer and Student,

Sixth Form Wider Learning Week

Monday 4 Friday 8 July 2016
I am writing to inform you about our plans for Year 12 students during Wider Learning Week, which takes
place from Monday 4 Friday 8 July 2016. A full timetable is attached to this letter. On Monday 4 July, it is
compulsory for all Year 12 students to attend the Sixth Form UCAS and Work-Related Learning sessions,
even if presently they do not think they wish to apply to university. Please note that students retaking Year
12 are only required to attend the sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.
The aims of the sessions are:

To introduce students to the process of applying to university

To register students on the UCAS website and support them in completing the personal details
section
To support students in completing a first draft of their personal statements, ensuring it is uploaded
to the UCAS website
To help students produce a personal CV
To prepare students for interview (job or University)

Students are expected to arrive at school for 8.45am on Monday 4 July, with activities commencing in the
Sixth Form Study Room. Students will then follow the attached timetable, with their activities determined
by their allocated group (also attached). Students will need to bring a USB memory stick and details of their
examination results, including GCSE, to the sessions in the Library on Thursday 7 July. Please be aware
that students will be allocated time to complete a draft of their personal statement. Students who do not
use this time for the intended purpose will not be able to enrol for Year 13.

Sixth Form Calendar

I would also like to take this opportunity to write to you regarding some important dates for August and
September:
SUMMER EXAMINATION RESULTS
These will be issued to students on Thursday 18 August 2016 at 9.30am. Enrolment for Year 13
will take place in the Study Room once students have received their results.
To enrol to Year 13, pass grades in three subjects is required, unless a student is on a supported
pathway. BTEC Level 3 students must have complete all Year 12 coursework units to progress to
Year 13.
AUTUMN TERM STARTS
Autumn Term starts for Year 13 on Tuesday 6 September 2016. Students are expected in school
at 1.45pm to attend an assembly and an induction period with form tutors. Failure to attend, without
good reason, will be an indication to the school that students will not be resuming their studies at
Isleworth & Syon.
Year 13 lessons will resume on Wednesday 7 September 2016.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully,

Mr J Doyle
Sixth Form Leader
