FINAL SEMESTER PROJECT

Summer 2016
In this project, you will prepare a case study. Your study should have the following
sections. See APA Manual for margins, font sizes, citations and references.
A. RESEARCH PROBLEM
B. INTRODUCTION: Describe the general area and context of the problem.
Establish a need for the research by citing relevant theory and research. Lay the
groundwork for your hypotheses. Lead up to a purpose statement at the end of the
introduction. Length will vary; however this section should be at least 1 page
(double-spaced).
C. PURPOSE STATEMENT: One or two focused sentences about your particular
study especially with respect to the particular variables and issues that you are
examining.
D. HYPOTHESES: Describe the relationship you expect to find between each
variable and any interactions among the variables. You may wish to include a
rationale for your hypothesis.
E. METHOD:
a. Subjects: Describe all relevant demographic information about the
population from which your sample will be drawn. Describe the sample
procedure used. Describe the sample and how groups are assigned to
conditions.

b. Procedure: In this section, describe your design and summarize each step
in the research process. Operationally define the independent variable
unless you have done so in the Introduction section. Explain thoroughly
what each group (treatment and control) will receive. Include instructional
time, duration of study, etc. Describe materials used if appropriate.
Another researcher should be able to replicate the steps in your study by
reading this section.
c. Instrumentation: Describe the instrument(s) that will be used in the study.
d. Analysis: In a sentence or two, describe the statistical test that you will use
to analyze results of your study. Example: A t-test for independent means
will be used to compare the treatment and control groups on the dependent
measure.
F. RESULTS: Summarize your findings and point the reader to the relevant data in
the text, figures and/or tables (Descriptive and inferential Statistics). The text
should complement the figures or tables. This section should be at least 3 pages
(double-spaced).
Note 1: You can use an existing data set or come up with a hypothetical data set for your
analysis.
Note 2: There are many resources that you can use in internet. One of them is
http://onlinestatbook.com/case_studies_rvls/index.html. The case studies in this link are
not necessarily in the format explained above but they can give you an idea.

RUBRIC: Your work will be graded over 100 points according to following
rubric items;

CONTENT (40 points):

o The case is appropriate for EDUC 5313 course content.
o All the parts presented in the study are complete, accurate, and
clearly presented.

ORGANIZATION (20 points):

o Presents all information clearly and concisely and in an organized
manner.
o Structure of the paper flows and is easily read because of smooth
transitions from paragraph to paragraph.
o Maintains focus/avoids being sidetracked by tangents

MECHANISCS, SPELLING, AND PUNCTUATION (10 points):

o Uses complete sentences and a variety of sentence types.
o There are no spelling or punctuation errors. Character and place
names are spelled consistently throughout.

Appropriate Length (10 points)

APA Format (10 points)

ORIGINALITY (10 points): You will submit this paper as a turn-it-in

document. Make sure that your similarity percentage is below 20%
including references before submitting it. Keep in mind that any
number below 20% does not mean that it is good in terms of
plagiarism. Your work will still be reviewed for its originality.
