Mandatory ORIENTATION
Due Monday June 6
Art History I: Distance Learning
8-week session; May 31- July 26
Welcome to art history class! I look forward to working with you this summer and to an
enjoyable and productive class. Feel free to contact me by email if you have questions now
or throughout the 8-week semester. I usually respond to emails within 24 hours and make
announcements at least every few days. The first thing you need to do is complete the
orientation checklist (see below) and send it either as an attachment or cut and
pasted it into an email, to me at ekeever@austincc.edu. In the subject header please
type orientation, your classs synonym (5 digits), and your last name.
Please type an X to indicate completion of tasks.

Orientation Checklist
__X___1. Activate ACC student email account at: http://www.austincc.edu/accmail/index.php
__X___2. Log on to the course's Blackboard site at: http://acconline.austincc.edu/
___X__3. Purchase the textbook Gardner's Art through the Ages: The Western Perspective,
Volume I, 14th Edition, Kleiner, Fred S. - 2014; ISBN 13: 978-1-133-95000-4. You may buy a
used edition and do not need the CourseMate Printed Access Card. You may also buy a Global
Edition (instead of Western Perspective), but because it is longer, you will skip the chapters we do
not cover.
Once you have your textbook, skim the Introduction and begin reading Chapter 1 on Prehistoric Art.
___X__3. Print the Course Syllabus from the Blackboard site and carefully review it. (It's in the
course menu to the left of the Blackboard page.)
__X___4. Explore the support material and assignments in the COURSEWORK section (found
in left panel of your Blackboard menu). You may also want to print study guides and perhaps lecture
notes (depending on how much ink and paper you have available). There are also flashcards that
need labeling.
__X___5. Go into the Discussion Board (menu option to the left of BB screen page), Click on
Self-Intro. Post an introduction of yourself to the rest of the class. This is not graded but is part of
your orientation. Only share what you wish. If you have taken Distance Learning classes in the past,

feel free to share some study advice. Please try to be respectful of your classmates and use humor
carefully.
Please type an X to indicate that you understand the following course policies and
information.
ACC Student Email
6. __X___I have followed the directions to activate my student email account:
http://www.austincc.edu/accmail.
7. __X___I understand that the professor is required to communicate with me through my ACC

8. __X___I understand that I must check my email regularly (i.e. every 24-48 hours) to receive
