POST RECCE REPORT 1 AK BDE AOR

Gen.

Recce of units ex 1 AK Bde was conducted from 21 Dec 15 - 11 Jan 16 to have

orientation with Bde AOR. The recce was planned to have a sound knowledge and familiarization
with terrain, imp tac features, apchs ldg in own AOR, nullahs configuration in own and en AOR,
gaps, dominating and vuln posts, xing places, climate hardships and life of tps depl on LOC. Recce
was carried out sec vise commencing from Pandu sec, Chakothi sec and culminated at Chham
sec.

To carry out recce of all secs of bde with a view to familiarize with own and en AOR.

Pandu Sec. Pandu sec is one of the most imp sec with regards to its war history. It was

attk by India in all the three wars fought so far. This sec is mostly dominated by en, however some
of our posts can eff engage them. This sec covers a frontage of 11.6 kms from incl Kazi Nag to
excl CUCP with 26 posts in total. It is having the highest post i-e Kazi Nag Post at a ht of 10413 ft.
From def pt of view it is the most vuln sec as ens apch from Kazi Nag can facilitate their adv
towards Pandu, Chinari and further towards Mzd. Pandu Sec is further sub divided into three secs
which are Kazi Nag sub sec, Jungle sub sec and Sher sub sec.
a.

Kazi Nag Sub Sec.

Kazi Nag sub sec has total of 6 x posts, all in a linear pattern

covering Kazi Nag ridge. Kazi Nag post itself and Gole Tekri are considered to be imp
from ens pt of view as they completely dominate the Shah Gul N and Sufaida Gap
on each side. This linear ridge provides en with ideal ridge line apch dominating
Pandu sec. Maj wpns depl on the posts eff cover en posts in case of hostilities.

Jungle Sub Sec.

Jungle sub sec has total of 9 x posts, loc along LOC. Nalai N

running astride Jungle sub sec is being eff covered and some of the en posts are
being dominated by own posts. Shams Screen being the last post is vuln to ens phy
raid however efficient on post action can eff repulse the raid.

Sher Sub Sec.

Sher sub sec has 7 x posts, depl as per the dictates of ridge.

Rafique post provides depth to coy HQ at this sec. Phal post can be eff engaged by
en fire due to its vuln and loc. All other posts can eff engage en posts across the LOC
with maj wpns.

Chakothi Sec.

Chakothi sec covers a frontage of 10.2 kms from incl CUCP to excp Pir

Kanthi with total of 32 posts. The highest post in the sec is Parat at a ht of 10374 ft. This sec is
also imp from historical perspective, it eff dominates Tilpatra Ridge across LOC. It has two isolated
posts which are vuln from ens pt of view. Parat provides adequate depth to own posts due to its ht.
This sec is imp for en for its apch towards Mzd and Bagh using central apch from charsadda and
ridge line apch from Pir Kanthi and Parat. It is also imp due to its sensitivity at xing pt and rd ldg
towads Urni. Due to layered def sys in this sec it is being provided adequate depth and eff sp fwd
posts in terms of fire. However in case of phy raid on both isolated posts shifting of tps may not be
possible and they will have to fight on post battle.

Chham Sec.

Chham sec is considered to be imp sec with regards to our domination

over en. Most of our posts are fully dominating due to their ht. Chham sec covers a wide frontage
of 16.9 kms from incl Urni to excl Kasturi Nar with a total of 21 posts. Its highest post is BK Top
with a ht of 13346 ft which completely domimates the en posts infront. Chham sec is sub divided in
4 x sub secs which are Urni, Burzi, BK and Said Ali Sub secs. Urni sec being the most vuln due to
its isolation and close proximity to ens Urni posts. Both vuln posts are unable to sp each other
interms of fire and shifting of tps, however in case of hostilities ens Urni posts can eff be engaged
with hy wpns from Burzi sub sec. Maj apch aval with en in this sec is via BK Top, Burzi towards
Chham. Terrain in this sec is difficult to scale especially in winter season.
a.

Urni Sub Sec.

Urni sub sec has total of 3 x posts, 2 out of which are loc

isolately along LOC in Urni forest. Defs of these posts are well sited, however due to
restriction of clear F of F possibility of phy raid cannot be ruled out.
b.

Burzi Sub Sec.

Burzi sub sec comprises of 3 x fwd posts loc on isolated peaks

along LOC. All these posts eff cover en posts with fire of hy wpns. Burzi sec eff
dominates Urni sec as well. Nullah apch from Bokra gap and Mori Patra provide ideal
xing places for own tps.
