This course, College Writing in a Digital World, will offer students numerous

opportunities to develop and deepen critical thinking skills through reading,


writing and creating digital artifacts that reflect important issues of today. It
will explore digital cultures and the intersection of humans with technology,
and. examine the crucial issues of today, such as censorship, activism, rights
to free-speech, and digital citizenship.
Outcomes and Assessments:
1. Students will display their ability to evaluate questions about an issue
for relevancy and critical and creative thinking and prioritize them in
order of importance according to group consensus using Intel Visual
Ranking Tool.
2. Students will display their ability to create/design a digital artifact
that presents the main issues, concerns and/or solutions to a problem
discovered through their inquiry process using Prezi and embed it with
a written reflection on the class blog with at least a C according to
the provided rubric.
3. Students will display their ability to evaluate digital artifacts created
by peers with team members on Voice Thread with at least a C
according to the rubric.
4. Students will display their ability to write a researched response to a
complex issue in a collaborative jigsaw project using WikiSpaces with
at least a C according to the provided rubric.
In particular, this course will fulfill the outcomes of the College of the
Redwoods General Education Program:
[It] will help students develop and deepen the capacity to think; obtain
knowledge on which preparation for the future depends; acquire a fuller
understanding of cultures; strengthen the foundation for informed
citizenship, participation in community life, and public leadership; and
sustain vocational and career goals. In other words, exposure to the general
education curriculum should prepare students to live in a rapidly changing
world, but also to participate conscientiously in its transformation."
