Air

Pressure Report

Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to build a barometer and investigate the effect
of temperature on air pressure.
Team

Date and Duration for the Data Collection
8 October 2015 9:30 to 10:10

Hypothesis
When the temperature drops, the balloon will go down and the straw will go up.
When the temperature rises, the balloon will go up and the straw will go down.

Materials:
-Balloon
-Straw
-Beaker
-Whiteboard
Summary Of What We Did:
Mr Santella changed the temperature in the room and see how the straw went up
or how it went down.
Steps and Methods(Procedure):
We cut the balloon and put it onto the beaker and we taped it to seal it shut so
no air will go in or out. Then we put the straw on the balloon and put a
whiteboard behind the straw. When the air pressure rises or lower, recored on
the whiteboard on how the straw went up or down.

Results (Data)
The straw had went up when the Mr Santella turned the air-con on full blast
because the air presure in the beaker is different so it caused the balloon to go
lower so the straw goes higher. But when
the heater is on the ballon goes higher
At the Start of the
which makes the straw to go lower.
experiment

The Straw Lowers

The Straw Rises

Conclusion:
The results match the hypothesis, when the temperature in the room is cool,
then the straw will go up because the balloon goes down. But when the room is
getting hotter, the balloon will rise which causes the straw to drop.

I learned that it is easy to make a barometer and measure the air pressure in the
room. Even though I cannot see the readings of the air pressure in the room, I
still can see the increase of air pressure and how it lowers.

I also learned that the temperature in the room is easily affected on the air
pressure in the beaker which could make the straw go up or down.
