7 TH GRADE LESSON PLAN

Anticipatory Set Call Membrane 7 Min
Materials: Balloon, Nylons, Willing Students to blow up and pop Balloon.
Lesson Organelle Review, Wanted Poster Introduction, Student Work Time
Organelle Review -10 Min
Go through Organelle parts with the students. This will be review as the class has
spent some time becoming familiar with Cells through notes and instruction. This will be
done with a PowerPoint presentation of cell organelle photos and class discussion.
Wanted poster Introduction 5 Min
I will then introduce the Wanted Poster Activity to the class. This will involve
showing the class a selection of original Wanted posters then passing out the activity
worksheets. I will pass out the Instructions sheet, Short Answer Worksheet, Rubric and
Organelle IDs.
We will go over the instructions of the assignment then the Rubric. After I ask the
class for any questions I will pass out their assigned Organelles. This is to avoid students
from working on the assignment before all the instructions are given.
Inform the Students that the poster is due the next day, Monday.
Poster Work Time 25 Min (Rest of the Class Time)
I will send students off to work on their posters and worksheets. I will begin to
walk around and help students that need more direction with their project. I will provide the
poster paper and coloring materials.
I will also provide a Cell Organelle Crossword for any earlier finishers.

Welcome to the wild wild WEST Mayors! Out here everything is

either on the up and up or up to no good! Each of you will be
assigned a WANTED cell organelle. Create an authentic WANTED
Poster for the other Mayors of the West to see. It is now up to you to
decide how your poster will look, but it MUST include these few
things:
1. CRIME: What has this organelle done? Why is this organelle "wanted"? In
other words, what does it do for the cell? Or, what is the organelles function?
2. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: What does the organelle look like? How would
you know if you found the organelle? Provide a description and an actual
picture. The picture must be a sketch from a sketch artist (hand drawn by you).
Remember the more details you have, the easier it will be for others to identify!
3. LOCATION: Where should we look for the organelle? Which of the following
types of cells is this organelle found in? Make sure that you have explored,
bacteria (Archaebacterial and Eubacteria), Protists, Fungi, Plants, and Animals.
4. ACCOMPLICES: Who helps your organelle? In other words, what other
organelles/structures in the cell help your organelle do its job?
Fill out the Organelle Fact Sheet to help you create your WANTED Poster. You
will need to turn in to me the Rubric, Organelle Fact Sheet and Completed
Wanted poster.
