My name is Chew Kar Man and I come from Negeri Sembilan. I am 20 years
old in this year. Growing up as the eldest amongst my sibling, I have to be a good
model for my sibling . I am currently study Bachelor of Finance in Inti International
College Subang and this is my 3 rd semesters in Inti College. Previously, I have done
my 2 years diploma in Tunku Abdul Rahman College. My hobbies are jogging, listen
to music when I was distracted and I watch drama during my free time.
1.1 Long, Medium & Short Term Goal
Become an outstanding financial wealth planner is my long term goal for my
future career. I plan to join Prudential Assurance Berhad after I graduate from Inti.
The reasons I would like to join Prudential Assurance Berhad is because I get
influence by my mother. My mother is an issurance agent of Prudential. I like their
flexible working hours, so that I am able to have my own private time for my family
in the future.
Next, achieve to first class honor is my medium term goal in the end of my
degree studies. I believe that I will get a good job especially my dream job easily if I
have good academic achievments. Therefore, I will try my best to achieve at least
grade B+ for all the subject in the following semesters. Last but not least, my short
term goal is to score above 70 or average for every subject that I took in this semester.
This short term goal actually helps me getting closer to achieve my medium term
goal.
2.0 Learning Style
According

to

David

Kolb

(1994),

the

learning

cycle

involves

four stages which are concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract

conceptualization and follow by active experimentation. Kolb categorised learners
into assimilators, convergers, accommodators and divergers which correspond to
these stages. Besides that, the Kolb categories also match the visual, auditory and
tactile learning styles. Tactile learning style corresponding to the learning by doing
which match with the categories of accommodators and convergers. Next, visual and
auditory learning styles corresponding to the learning by looking and listening which
match with the categories of divergers and assimilators.

2.1 My Learning Style

Based

on

the

learning

style

inventory

(Refer

to

diagram

1), I

have been determined as a visual learner. Visual learners tend to prefer reading,
drawings, charts and other graphic information. In the real life, this is exactly what
my learning style when I was study. Tools that I prefer to use during my learning time
are charts, maps, filmstrips, notes and flashcards. I found that by using these tools, I
have a better memory ability. Not only that, I like to use colors to highlight some
important points on my notes. According to the whatismylearningstyle.com (2014),
there state that the majority of visual learner prefers a time-line or some other similar
diagram to remember historical events. Besides that, visual learner has better
understands through the use of charts, diagrams and maps. Furthermore, they enjoy
decorating their learning areas and enjoy visual art activities. Their studies materials
are reading notes and organizing it in outline form. These are also what my
preferences during my studies in the real situation.
2.1.1 Action Plan
I am a visual learner. Thing comes to remember better through visualization.
Body gestures and written materials of various kinds which including pictures are
useful for me to remember informations better. As a visual learner, I have to write
down the things that I want to remember. By doing this, I can have another look on
my notes and this enables me to have a sort of track record to all my previous
learning. In addition, I put complex concepts into flowcharts or graphs for me to have
a better understanding. When studying mathematical or technical information, I make
charts to organize the informations. Next, another action can be taken to improve my
learning style is using various color of highlighters to highlight the important
information on my notes. Visual learner tend to focus on colors and it will help keep
their attention when doing revision. Lastly, I prefer to study alone in a quiet palce. I
will go library or other places that have a quiet environment to study.
3.0 Personality
Personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of
thinking, feeling and behaving. (American Psychological Association, n.d.) According
to the Rothmann,S. and Coetzer,E,P., 2003, the five dimensions of the five-factor
model of personality are Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience,
4

Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. At first, neuroticism indicating the persoanlity

general tend to experience negative affects such as sadness, fear, anger,
embarrassment, disgust and guilt. Next, extraverts are normally optimistic and
energetic since extraversion includes traits such as assertiveness, activity, sociability
and talkativeness. Furthermore, openness to experience includes aesthetic sensitivity,
active imagination, attentiveness to inner feelings, independence of judgement and
intellectual curiosity. Nevertheless, an agreeable person is basically sympathetic,
altruistic to others and eager in helping others. They believes that others will be
equally helpful in return. Lastly, conscientiousness refers to the person who has good
self-control and active process of organising, planning as well as carrying out tasks.
3.1 My Personality
Besides of the theory part, I have attended to a workshop that held by Inti last
month. This workshop aim to help students to recognise in their personality. I scored
the highest in the artistic personality. Thus, my personality has been determine as an
artistic through the personality mosaic that provided by the speaker (Refer to diagram
3). In the real life, I more prefer to work alone and independently rather than with
others. Besides that, I enjoy variety, beauty, the unusual in slight, sound, texture and
even people. Next, I need fairly unstructures environment to provide opportunities for
creative expression. This is excatly match with the personality mosaic that I have
done. After all this, I also scored high in the conventional personality which I have a
strong need to feel secure and certain, attend to every detail, get things finished and
follow a routine.
3.2 Personality vs Job
As I have mentioned above, my two main personality are artistic and
conventional. Artistic personalities are tend to more creative and with the
imaginations that stretch further than others can conceive. These people do not like
structured tasks and they would rather express themselves through their work. They
enjoy working with colors, forms, words, patterns and designs. In contrast, people
with conventional personality which including me like conventional things such as
rules, schedules, procedures and instructions. General conventional people are
practical and tend to like routine and order (Rachel, Z., 2009). Based on the research,
my conventional personality completely fit with the job that I wish to work for in the
5

future which is financial wealth planner.
