1.4 Precautions
The following precautions should be observed whenever the VISUPAC is being installed or serviced. Point
out to the customer any potential hazard and the appropriate corrective action.
General Safety Precautions
The VISUPAC system should be used in a cool, dry and dust-free environment.
The VISUPAC system is designed to operate from one of three AC line voltages.
These are: 100 V, 120 V and 230 V at 50/60 Hz. Before connecting the power cord to
the VISUPAC system, check the power table lift mechanism for the proper input
voltage required.
Although the VISUPAC system is designed for continuous operation, it should be
turned off when not used for an extended period of time.
The VISUPAC system is equipped with a three-prong plug. To prevent electric shock, the instrument
must be plugged into an outlet with a ground receptacle. If the plug does not fit the outlet, contact an
electrician. DO NOT disable or remove the ground pin.
DO NOT overload the AC outlet being used to operate the VISUPAC system.
If the power cord or plug on the VISUPAC system or peripherals is damaged, a shock or fire hazard
may result. DO NOT allow continued operation of the VISUPAC system or peripherals until the
damaged cord or plug has been replaced.
Ensure that the fuses installed in the VISUPAC system or peripherals are of the proper type and rating.
Use of an extension cord is not recommended. Doing so may compromise the safety of the operator
and/or patient.
DO NOT operate the VISUPAC system in a wet or moist environment.
DO NOT spill liquid on the systems keyboard.

VISUPAC
General Information
To ensure the safety of the patient and operator, peripheral equipment, such as the printer, will comply
with one or more of the appropriate safety standards, such as CSA, DEMKO, ETL, FIMKO, KEMA,
NEMKO, NOM, SEMKO, TUV, UL, and SABS.
DO NOT connect or disconnect cables while the power is on.
DO NOT place the VISUPAC system on an uneven or sloped surface. This may introduce difficulties in
operating the patient module.
When shutting down the computer, allow 10 seconds before powering it back up.
As with many electrical instruments, the VISUPAC system generates radio frequency and may cause
interference to radio and television reception, and to other radiation hazard instruments (Mobile
phone). If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception, the following
measures may be necessary:
a. Plug the VISUPAC system into a different outlet so that the instrument and the receiving device are
on different branch circuits.
b. Reorient the TV or radio antenna.
c. Reorient the VISUPAC system with respect to the TV or the radio.
d. Move the receiving device and the VISUPAC system away from each other.
e. Use only shielded communication cables.
Note: The VISUPAC is CE approved and it has met the EMI/EMC requirements.
Instrument Precautions
When the VISUPAC system is being unpacked, save the shipping materials for possible future use.
Whenever the VISUPAC system is shipped, it must be properly packed to prevent damage.
When spare parts are received, save the shipping materials for returning the defective part(s), if
appropriate.
The VISUPAC is very delicate and should be handled with extreme care. If it is dropped, or receives any
other significant impact, it may not work properly.
It is advised that you wear an ESD wrist strap and connect the wrist strap to a wellgrounded metal
surface at all times when handling VISUPAC PCBs. Before touching any PCB, ensure that you first
discharge any electrostatic charge that may have built up on your body. A convenient way to do this is
to simply touch a bare metal surface on the VISUPAC system while the system is plugged into a wellgrounded power outlet. If the VISUPAC system is not plugged in, some other well-grounded surface
must be used.
Proper ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) precautions must be observed whenever you are disassembling or
handling the VISUPAC system's circuitry. Many of the components are extremely vulnerable to static

discharge damage. A Field Service Static Protection Kit is available for order and must be used for ESD
protection during VISUPAC service.
The VISUPAC system has ventilation openings to allow for the release of heat generated during
operation. If these openings are blocked, built-up heat can cause failures that may result in a fire
hazard. Ensure that none of the ventilation openings on the VISUPAC system and peripherals are
blocked.
VISUPAC General Information
DO NOT use accessories that are not designed for this VISUPAC system. Use only those parts
recommended by Carl Zeiss Meditec Systems GmbH to achieve optimum performance and safety.

Class C network
192 168 16
The decimal value for the host bits is in the range from 1 to 254. All host bits set to 0 represents the
network itself, all bits set to 1 represents the broadcast address.
Subnet mask:
The subnet mask also consists of 4 digits each in the range of 0 to 255. Every digit represents 8 bits in
binary code. It is used to split a network in parts. A Subnet mask of 255 255 0 0 in a class C network
means the network is in one part. A subnet mask of 255 255 240 0 splits the network in 16 subnets with
4096 host addresses.
The standard value for a stand-alone VISUPAC capture station is:
IP-address:
223.255.255.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
APIPA:
Automatic Private IP Addressing. This function should not be used; manual TCP/IP settings should be
preferred.
MAC address:
Every network adapter has a unique identification number in the hardware. It is called MAC address and
looks like this: 01 ea 3b 38 a1 cf. It is very implausible you will have two devices with the same address
in the network. The MAC address is used in the VISUPAC for licensing.
TCP/IP port numbers:
To specify the process the data is for, the data stream consists a protocol number and a port number.
The protocol number of the TCP is 6. The port numbers specify the kind of data like 80 for http, 20/21 for
ftp or 119 for nntp. Interbase use port number 3050 and 3060, the licensing server use port number
27000 27009. Also other functions like DICOM messaging use TCP/IP ports.

Tell the IT administrator to send DICOM objects to the PACS. They want to know the Application Entity
Title of your Modality. A Modality is for instance our Visupac system able to send DICOM objects. The
Application Entity Title is a name, unique inside the DICOM messaging network. It is defined by property
PTYPE DIC and PKEY callingApplicationEntityTitle. You can change the default value of E_I_S
if necessary. If you leave it unchanged you have to inform the administrator for being prepared receiving
images from E_I_S. (FYI: Some PACS has to know what modalities may send images. The identification
for it is the Application Entity Title. Receiving images from other modalities would be aborted or
canceled.)

Additional information
Troubleshooting at all.
"Connection refused" in the log file means service is not available. Host may be wrong, port may be
wrong or the server application does not work at the moment. Increasing timeout may help if you can
find out the server application was working and the settings was ok.
If Operation timed out appears in the log file, the configuration should be checked. That e.g. an IPaddress or Host-name is registered wrong, might be a reason. Try to ping the address from a console to
be on the safe side.
Troubleshooting Modality Worklist.
If connection can be initiated and a request can be performed and then an error occurs then you might
change the amount of the requested tags. There is a file located in "c:\eis\config\dicom" named
"DicomFindHeader.ini". You can reduce the content of that file according to that which is enclosed to
this mail as an attachment step by step. But begin removing with tag (0008,0052) (it's the most
suspected)! You don't need to restart Visupac. The application reads the file each time you perform a
Modality Worklist request.
Change set of tags to show on the pick list
The pick list is part of the Modality Worklist Query Dialog. The pick list is the tabular overview on the set
of DICOM Objects which matched the Modality Worklist Query. It is possible tho change the set of tags.
You have to enter tags in properties
PTYPE DIC PKEY modalityWorklistPickListTags0
PTYPE DIC PKEY modalityWorklistPickListTags1
PTYPE DIC PKEY modalityWorklistPickListTags2
The odd thing is that these three properties belongs to one mega property. The reason of splitting is the
database allows 70 characters only for each value. The Visupac application assembles these three
properties to one property of 210 characters. Please have a look to the Annex for a list of tags. The
syntax is quite easy, you just have to list the tags, seperated by a blank.

DICOM PACS
The Visupac stations (capture stations and viewing stations) cooperates with the Visupac server. The
Visupac server cooperates with the DICOM PACS. There is no direct connection from the Visupac stations
to the DICOM PACS. There might be connections from the Visupac stations to the DICOM environment
but that's out of scope for this particular module.
Since Visupac 4.2, there is a server component available which handles work with a DICOM PACS. The
component can archive images into the PACS and the component can relocate images from the PACS.
The PACS itself may be a system consisting of several components.
Terminology
Config Tool and boolean values
The Config Tool has been updated in Visupac 4.2. The GUI changed dramatically. For the representation
of boolean values in the GUI we made following conclusion:

Archive-Relocate
Archiving is the process of placing objects in archive. After that images will still reside in the image
cache. It depends on settings of the AMS if the images will be deleted at a certain time.
Relocating is the process of getting objects from the archive. The images will then reside in the image
cache.

Ask customer if adminstrator needs to use the Net-Send-feature. If so please make sure the potential
destination systems (usually also Visupac stations) have the Windows Messenger Service running and
enabled (see [Start]\Settings\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services). The service might be
helpful to send messages to the user in front of the Visupac systems when doing administrative work.

Troubleshooting
...
...
The port you want to use at server side for Remote Archive Interface is occupied. Create a property of
PTYPE AMS and PKEY remoteServerPort. PVALUE shall contain the port number you want to use. You
have to create this property at Visupac side and at EBI side. Both properties needs to have the same port
number!
Under certain circumstances it is not possible to resolve the hostname of the EBI from the client
application. That would result in the Visupac beeing unable to connect to the EBI server correctly. This
issue can be solved by changing the default configuration of the EBI itself.
To do this, change the file c:/apps/EBI/config/EBI.conf to point to the IP address instead the
computer name by changing the following entry:
wrapper.java.additional.4=-Djava.rmi.server.hostname=%COMPUTERNAME%

Annex
Syntax Application Entity Definition
The syntax for the belonging PVALUE entry is <IP>;<PORT>;<TIMEOUT>;<CALLED_AE_TITLE>. The
administrator gave <IP>, <PORT> and <CALLED_AE_TITLE> to you. <TIMEOUT> is a value which
depends on the network. A good value is 15000 for it. It means the function of getting a connection to
the server will wait at most 15 seconds. If the server does not respond to that try Visupac will report a
time-out in the log-file.
To give you an idea of a valid PVALUE
"205.128.215.89,62300,10000,VistA_Storage"
"pacs.clinic.net,104,10000,ASHVINS"
