Soundtrack for America Project

AP US History
You will be creating a 10 track soundtrack consisting of songs that define certain periods of
American History.

– You are to choose 10 time periods from the ones listed below. Only one song is allowed
per time period. Your song can either be symbolic or be a period piece that encapsulates
the mood or events of the times. YOU MAY NOT USE SONGS CONTAINING
INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, SO DON’T ASK! Their use will result in point loss and
will affect your grade.
○ Examples: “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” – The Animals
(represents the sentiment of many soldiers during the Vietnam War)
or
“Over There” – Billy Murray
(popular song during World War I)
– You will be designing a booklet to accompany your CD. Each song will be given one 8.5” x
11” page. For each song you must include:
○ Artist and Song Title
○ Lyrics to each song chosen
○ A thorough explanation of how your song choice represents the time period. Be
specific in your explanation and be sure to include key ID Terms.
○ THE SONGS LIST MUST BE IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER!
○ A unique piece of cover art. You may design it digitally or use your freehand
talents. Regardless, it must symbolize America in some way.
– You do not have to burn the CD. It is not required. However, for extra credit, you may
burn a CD sampler of your soundtrack. You will get one grade for burning the CD
(minimum four songs).
