COMMUNITY RELATIONS SECTION

Policy: 5.1

GOALS FOR SCHOOL-COMMUNITY RELATIONS

The School Board may set goals and standards for school-community
relations and may regularly evaluate its relationship with the public and its
programs for maintaining open channels of communication and good relations
with parents, community organizations, the business and industrial sector, and
the community at large.

Through its school-community relations programs, the Board will

encourage the community to take an active interest in the schools and participate
in planning activities; to place a high priority on education and make funds
available for an educational system that supports learning for all children; and to
establish partnerships with the schools to enhance learning opportunities.

School-community relations are essential to securing public input and

public support for educational programs.

Community awareness of public meetings of the School Board and an

opportunity to be heard at such meetings are necessary components of a positive
school-community relations policy. Notice of meetings is governed by Bylaw 2.24,
and public participation in meetings is governed by Bylaw 2.30.
