CASE STUDY

You are a community teacher for a large health care system. You are preparing a
series of two classes on smoking cessation that will be followed by a support group
for people who want to quit smoking.

1. What resources might you use to help you with the content for the class?

For the content of the course, I would most probably search for the
internet about the latest information on effective ways on how to quit smoking.
Also, I would refer to different online smoking cessation programs and active
community organizations about smoking cessation for further information.

The contents of the course would most likely be:

a. Smoking: a hard habit to break
b. Components of a cigarette
c. Dangerous effects of cigarette in human body
d. The second hand smoke: a much dangerous effect
e. How to stop smoking tips

2. Right objectives for the course in all three learning domains and indicate
how you will measure them.

Objectives for the course:

After the two-day smoking cessation course, the clients will be able to:
a. Identify the effects of smoking and apply smoking cessation
programs in their life. (Cognitive domain)
b. Demonstrate ways on how to lessen smoking and show
progress in this program. (Psychomotor domain)
c. Commit to lessen and gradually stop smoking for the rest of
their lives. (Affective domain)

How to measure them:

a. They will be able to mention components and effects of smoking and
they will be able to articulate things on how to decrease/stop smoking.
b. They will be able to demonstrate ways on how to lessen smoking and
show progress in the program after two weeks.
c. They will be having a monitoring sheet on how many sticks they
smoke a day, and if they smoke everyday. By this, we may be able to
monitor the progress of the clients.
3. What teaching methods would you use in these classes? Indicate the
resources that you would use for these methods.

For two days, I would most likely be using the following methods:
- Lecture and discussion materials including prepared PowerPoint
presentations
- Video simulation of the topic
- Providing program planners and client monitoring sheets to clients
- Provide pamphlets about the topic
- Referrals to other community organizations that support smoking
cessations
