DEFINITION : the word ‘environment’ originates from the French
word ‘environ’ or ‘environner’ meaning ‘around’ or surrounds-
“The region surrounding or circumstances in which any thing
exists”.
The term environment was introduced in ecology by biologist
JACOB VAN UERKUL(1864-1944).
