CODE OF ETHICS XENIA BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS: MEMBERS SHALL ETHICALLY SERVE THE PUBLIC INTEREST BY MAKING DECISIONS AND TAKING ACTIONS, WHICH WILL ENHANCE THE PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE OF THE CITIZENS OF XENIA, BY PROMOTING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN THE INTEGRITY AND IMPARTIALITY OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, Members shall uphold the prestige of their office, and avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety. Members shall not convey the impression that they are ina position to influence the outcome of a decision of the Xenia Planning and Zening Commission and shall neither use aor aitempt to use their office to influence or sway the professional staff recommendation. ‘Members shall discharac their dutics and responciilities without bias or prejudice towurd uny individual Person or group of persons. Members shall not allow personal or business relationships to influence their ‘condust or decisions in connection with any business of the Xenia Planning and Zoning Commission and shall not lend their influence towards the ndvancement of personal Interests or towards the advancement of the interests of family members, friends or business associates, ‘Members shall avoid creating the appearance of impropriety by relfaining from engaging in private discussions. with the applicant or their representatives or any member of the public or interested party "about specilic upcoming agenda items. If a Member receives a private written, telephonic or electronic communication about an agenda item, the Member shall promptly forward the information 40 the City (Clerk and Staff Representative of the Xenia Planning and Zoning Commission so that it may be sharcd ‘with all other Members. Members shall refrain from uny private discussion pertaining to the business of the Xenia Planning and Zoning Commission with other Members under the Ohio Oper Meetings Act (see hio Sunshine Laws: An Open Government Resource Manual published by the Ohio Attorney General) ‘No present or former Member may disclose o¢ use fefoemation not available to members of the general public and gained due to his or her official position, except for information relating cxciusively to governmental practices, for his or her personal exin or benefit or for the personal gain or benefit of any other pervon or ‘business entity. \No presemt of former Member may hold public meetings or publish information not available lo members of ‘the general publi without expeess consent by the commission for witich the information pertains. Members shall not accept or solicit anything of valve including + gift, loan, payment, favor, service, meal, (rinsportation, promise of employment or business contract, if such thing is given with the understanding or possibility that it will influence the official action of the Member during proceedings cr in his or her capacity 2s a Member. The same siandard shall apply to a gift, loam, favor, ete, for family member, friend or business partner of the Member. ‘A Member who announces or files as a candidate for public office shall resign immediately from their commission, Additionally, no Member shall solicit funds from any otker Member in support of any person's campaiga for election to loeal or state public office, Members shall refrain from participating in any proceeding in which their impartiality may reasonubly be questioned. A Member whose persimal, employment or business relationship with a person of entity that js subject w u recommendation of the commission of which they art a Member shall seek the advice and counsel of the Xenia City Law Director, if such relationship could conceivably inflvenee the Member's impartiality during the commission's discussion of the subject. ‘The provisions of, the Ohio Eihics Law (Cage oF this of Rr ad Commision and Relared Starwes (published by the Ohio’ Ethics Commission) shall govern conflict of interest determinations. 10, No Member shall corruptly use or attempt 10 use his or her official position or any property or resource whic may be within his or her trust. or perform his or her official duties, to sccure a special privilege, bencfit, or cxeniption foe himself, herself, or others. 11, Members shall remain vigilant and report to the Xenia Planning and Zoning Commission any deviations from the by-laws, code of conduct, policies and mission statement of their commission.
