1 Mission Success!

is an inspirational book by bestselling author Augustine “Og”

Mandino III that motivates yet entertains readers through the gripping story of a
bombardier (a crewman of the lead bomber who is responsible for assisting the
navigator in guiding the plane to a bombing target and releasing the aircraft’s bomb load)
during the third World War, a hypothetical successor to the second World War which
took place during 1939 until 1945, mainly between the United States and Germany.

2 The story starts off with Luke Gardiner, now a successful man, returning to London
where he met a certain Winnie Marlow a long, long time ago when he was still a
bombardier staying at Marley. Unfortunately, when he came back, successful that he
was, he didn’t see her at once for the apartment where Winnie Marlow once stayed in
was directly hit by German V-2 rockets on a New Year’s morning, as narrated by his
driver, Henry who lived about two blocks from Matthew’s Court.

3 Luke Gardiner lost both of his parents at the age of eight after they were both killed
when a bus had lost control on the wet pavement at Route 9. He had to live with the only
relative he had, Uncle Pete, who unfortunately was drunk. During times when he was
actually sober, Luke had to make do with his constant saying that Luke was lucky to
have him because he saved him from the streets so Luke can’t do anything but be his
houseboy under his care.

4 When his uncle was drunk, he slapped Luke, always finding something wrong to
address to. He ran away four times but the police always brought him back to his uncle.
What’s worse is the fact that he was also teased to no end in school for clothes (he grew
up fast) and simple because he lived with the town drunk. Luke was a natural athlete
and when he grew to a six feet tall, Pete stopped hitting on him.

5 He began to spend time in the library and found an area of books on success. This
made him more determined that he won’t be a loser. Luke also had a girlfriend, Priscilla
Wheat, who was from the upscale part of town. Luke constantly wrote to her when he
was finally a bombardier for the Air Forces. He had traveled to Salt Lake City to the
English Channel to London where he was interviewed by Phil Peters and introduced to
Winnie Marlow.

6 Winnie Marlow, a gray haired tiny lady with high cheekbones, owned lodgings at
Matthew’s Court and many people from the Air Force stayed at her place and were her
good friends. She taught Luke the way to success every time their crew got passes to
stay elsewhere and have a good time. Upon setting the bomb however at the Germans’
electricity plant at the so called neutral country of Switzerland, they had yet to meet
again.
